1984年(nian)，英(ying)國歌手菲爾·科林(lin)斯（Phil Collins）看到新聞(wen)中非(fei)洲埃塞俄(e)比亞(ya)等(deng)地區的人民，長期處于(yu)饑荒與營(ying)養不良而死亡，遂(sui)在圣(sheng)誕節(jie)之前提出(chu)(chu)構想，由(you)鮑(bao)勃·吉爾道夫(fu)（Bob Geldof）擔(dan)任召集人，由(you)數十位當紅藝人以(yi)「Band Aid」為名(ming)共同灌(guan)錄單(dan)曲義(yi)賣，將義(yi)賣所得援助非(fei)洲饑民，單(dan)曲《他們知道現在是圣(sheng)誕節(jie)嗎？》（Do they know it's Christmas ?）于(yu)焉誕生。這張(zhang)單(dan)曲推(tui)出(chu)(chu)后，立即在全(quan)世界引起回響，光是英(ying)美兩地就賣出(chu)(chu)約三百(bai)二(er)十萬張(zhang) 。
