1984年，英國(guo)歌(ge)手(shou)菲爾(er)·科林斯（Phil Collins）看到新聞中非(fei)(fei)洲埃塞俄比(bi)亞等(deng)地區的(de)人(ren)民，長期處于饑(ji)荒(huang)與營(ying)養不良(liang)而死亡，遂在(zai)(zai)圣(sheng)誕節(jie)之前(qian)提出構想，由鮑(bao)勃(bo)·吉(ji)爾(er)道夫(fu)（Bob Geldof）擔任召(zhao)集人(ren)，由數十(shi)位當紅藝人(ren)以「Band Aid」為名共同灌錄單(dan)(dan)曲(qu)義(yi)賣(mai)，將義(yi)賣(mai)所得(de)援助非(fei)(fei)洲饑(ji)民，單(dan)(dan)曲(qu)《他們知道現在(zai)(zai)是圣(sheng)誕節(jie)嗎？》（Do they know it's Christmas ?）于焉誕生。這張單(dan)(dan)曲(qu)推(tui)出后，立即在(zai)(zai)全世界引起回響，光是英美兩地就(jiu)賣(mai)出約三百二十(shi)萬(wan)張 。
