石榴,落葉(xie)喬木或灌木;單葉(xie),通(tong)常對生(sheng)(sheng)或簇生(sheng)(sheng),無托葉(xie)。花頂(ding)生(sheng)(sheng)或近(jin)頂(ding)生(sheng)(sheng),單生(sheng)(sheng)或幾朵(duo)簇生(sheng)(sheng)或組成聚(ju)傘花序,近(jin)鐘(zhong)形,裂片5-9,花瓣5-9,多(duo)(duo)(duo)皺(zhou)褶,覆瓦狀排列;胚(pei)珠(zhu)多(duo)(duo)(duo)數(shu)。漿果(guo)球形,頂(ding)端有宿(su)存花萼裂片,果(guo)皮(pi)厚;種(zhong)子多(duo)(duo)(duo)數(shu),漿果(guo)近(jin)球形,果(guo)熟期(qi)9-10月。外種(zhong)皮(pi)肉質半透明,多(duo)(duo)(duo)汁;內種(zhong)皮(pi)革(ge)質。性味甘、酸澀(se)、溫,具有殺(sha)蟲、收斂、澀(se)腸、止痢(li)等功效。石榴果(guo)實營(ying)養豐富,維生(sheng)(sheng)素C含量比蘋果(guo)、梨要高出一二倍。中國傳統文化視石榴為吉祥物,視它為多(duo)(duo)(duo)子多(duo)(duo)(duo)福的象(xiang)征。
