1906年2月,建立公(gong)立六安州(zhou)中學(xue)堂(tang),在城內東大街就考棚(peng)防雨(yu)公(gong)所改設(she)。孝(xiao)廉(lian)汪(wang)祖樹為首任監督(du)(即堂(tang)長)。
1909年(nian),六安州中學堂實行文實分科。保送首屆畢業生高(gao)一(yi)涵、關(guan)建藩、盧本森(sen)等人到安慶高(gao)等學堂、兩(liang)江優級(ji)師(shi)范深造。
1912年,六安廢州(zhou)設縣(xian)(xian),六安州(zhou)中(zhong)學(xue)堂更(geng)名為六安縣(xian)(xian)中(zhong)學(xue)校。
1913年,奉省令(ling)停辦。1925年,恢復六安縣中學校,校名(ming)易為(wei)六安縣立初級中學。
1938年,日(ri)寇入侵,縣中一度停辦。
1939年春,恢(hui)復上課。為防(fang)避(bi)日機空襲,學校(xiao)遷至張店(dian)鄉胡大灣。校(xiao)名更(geng)為六安縣(xian)立中學。
1946年,抗(kang)日戰爭勝利(li)后,安(an)徽省(sheng)政府從金寨縣流波石(shi)童(tong)遷至(zhi)合肥,設在(zai)流波石(shi)童(tong)的省(sheng)立第一臨時中(zhong)學(xue)遷六安(an),更名為安(an)徽省(sheng)立六安(an)中(zhong)學(xue)。
1949年1月(yue)(yue),省立(li)六(liu)安(an)(an)中(zhong)學與六(liu)安(an)(an)縣(xian)立(li)中(zhong)學師生近70人隨解放(fang)軍(jun)轉移到(dao)六(liu)安(an)(an)南(nan)鄉解放(fang)區——毛(mao)坦廠,成立(li)皖西(xi)行署文(wen)化教育委(wei)員會,成立(li)安(an)(an)徽公學。2月(yue)(yue),六(liu)安(an)(an)再度(du)解放(fang)。在原省立(li)六(liu)安(an)(an)中(zhong)學與六(liu)安(an)(an)縣(xian)立(li)中(zhong)學的基礎上成立(li)皖西(xi)公立(li)六(liu)安(an)(an)中(zhong)學。9月(yue)(yue),校名更(geng)為六(liu)安(an)(an)專區公立(li)六(liu)安(an)(an)中(zhong)學。
1950年,該校分普通、師范、農林三科。普通科初中班與私立海峰女子初級中學(xue)合并(bing),另成立六安初級中學(xue)。
1950年8月,校(xiao)名(ming)改為六安(an)行政區(qu)公(gong)立六安(an)高(gao)級中學。
1951年2月(yue),校名改為皖北(bei)區(qu)六(liu)安(an)(an)(an)高(gao)級(ji)中(zhong)學。秋學期,六(liu)安(an)(an)(an)高(gao)級(ji)中(zhong)學普通科與六(liu)安(an)(an)(an)初級(ji)中(zhong)學合(he)并,校名改為皖北(bei)區(qu)六(liu)安(an)(an)(an)中(zhong)學。
1953年,該(gai)校有8個班遷北外三(san)里橋新校舍上課。在(zai)原校址另成立六安第三(san)初(chu)級(ji)中(zhong)學(xue),收(shou)回(hui)蘇家埠、黃蓮寺等小學(xue)附設初(chu)中(zhong)班,在(zai)三(san)初(chu)中(zhong)上課。
1958年(nian),校名改(gai)為安(an)徽(hui)省六安(an)高級中學。
1960年,安徽(hui)省教育廳確定其為(wei)省屬中學。同年6月(yue),國(guo)務院(yuan)確定其為(wei)全(quan)國(guo)文教戰線(xian)“先(xian)進單位(wei)”。
1964年5月,改名為安(an)徽(hui)省六安(an)第一中學(xue)。
1966年(nian)6月—1977年(nian),"文(wen)(wen)化(hua)革命(ming)工作組"進(jin)駐六安一中,成立"文(wen)(wen)化(hua)革命(ming)委(wei)員會",接管學(xue)校一切工作,學(xue)校停課。文(wen)(wen)化(hua)大革命(ming)十年(nian),六安一中遭受了(le)浩劫。
1978年7月,文革(ge)后第一屆高中畢業(ye)生參加(jia)高考,考取39人(ren)。
1978年(nian),省教育廳決定(ding)恢復為(wei)省屬(shu)中學,秋季(ji)在全地(di)區范圍內(nei)擇(ze)優招生。
1980年(nian),省(sheng)教育廳(ting)確定(ding)我校(xiao)和其(qi)他8所省(sheng)屬(shu)中學把高中二年(nian)制(zhi)改為(wei)三年(nian)制(zhi),進(jin)行改制(zhi)試驗(yan)。
1997年,國(guo)家教(jiao)委確定其為“全國(guo)現代教(jiao)育技術實驗(yan)學(xue)校”。
1999年,安(an)徽省教育廳確定其為省級示(shi)范(fan)高中。
2000年,該校(xiao)被(bei)授(shou)予“省(sheng)示范高(gao)中教學成果(guo)獎”。
2001年,該校被(bei)授予“市政府(fu)文明單位(wei)”稱號(hao)。
2005年12月(yue)12日,市政府第9次常務會議研究決定,給(gei)予該校記集(ji)體二等功。
2011年9月(yue),安徽省國(guo)家(jia)司法考試(shi)領導小組授(shou)予該校(xiao)“國(guo)家(jia)司法考試(shi)示范考點”稱號。
2012年(nian)6月26日,大連理(li)工大學授予該校(xiao)“優秀生(sheng)源基(ji)地(di)”稱號。
2013年10月31日,北(bei)京林(lin)業(ye)大(da)學授予(yu)該校“優質生(sheng)源基(ji)地(di)”稱號。
2014年6月(yue)23日(ri),安(an)徽工(gong)程大學黨授予該校(xiao)“優質(zhi)生源基地”稱號。
