查理·辛(xin)，父親(qin)馬丁(ding)·辛(xin)是(shi)名(ming)演員，在他出生前后剛剛開始在百老匯(hui)進(jin)行商業表演。母(mu)親(qin)珍妮·希恩是(shi)藝術系科(ke)班出身，搬到紐(niu)約(yue)后和馬丁(ding)相識。

1986年，查(cha)理·辛在大導演(yan)奧立(li)弗(fu)·斯(si)通的名片(pian)《野戰排》中出演(yan)了(le)主角克(ke)里斯(si)。影(ying)片(pian)獲得了(le)巨大的成功。查(cha)理的表現(xian)也得到了(le)廣泛的贊譽，并(bing)由(you)此一舉成名。
1987年，參與了(le)影(ying)片《華(hua)爾街(jie)》的(de)演出(chu)，在片中他入木三(san)(san)分(fen)地刻畫了(le)一個貪(tan)婪而又復(fu)雜的(de)經紀人(ren)的(de)形(xing)象。影(ying)片的(de)成功使查(cha)理辛再次擴大了(le)自己的(de)影(ying)響。此后(hou)他又拍攝了(le)《青年槍(qiang)手(shou)》、《八人(ren)出(chu)局》和(he)《公路三(san)(san)部曲》等影(ying)片，其表現也都十(shi)分(fen)出(chu)色。
1993年，查理(li)辛又參(can)與了重拍片《三個火槍手(shou)》的(de)(de)演(yan)出。在(zai)這部(bu)影片中他(ta)飾演(yan)年輕英(ying)(ying)勇而(er)足(zu)智多謀的(de)(de)火槍手(shou)阿拉密斯(si)。他(ta)極其成功地塑造了這位大仲馬筆下的(de)(de)英(ying)(ying)雄形象，再次展現了他(ta)那卓(zhuo)越的(de)(de)演(yan)藝才華。
90年代中期，無論是(shi)個人生活還(huan)是(shi)職業(ye)表(biao)演上(shang)，查理都(dou)遭遇(yu)了寒冬。招(zhao)妓、吸毒，成了他(ta)生活中非常重要的部分。
1996年，他的前女友布列(lie)塔(ta)妮·艾什蘭(lan)指(zhi)控他從身體上虐待(dai)了她，查(cha)理因此被判處1年監禁(jin)，緩期2年執行，同時(shi)被罰(fa)款2800美(mei)元(yuan)。
1998年(nian)，因(yin)吸毒過量被(bei)送(song)進醫院，后又再次(ci)被(bei)送(song)進戒(jie)毒中(zhong)心(xin)。這一(yi)時期他所拍的電影，像《天(tian)襲》(The Arrival)(1996)、《火線驚(jing)爆點》(Shadow Conspiracy) (1997)等(deng)，票房非常慘淡。
90年代結束，新世紀到(dao)來(lai)之后，查理的(de)命運也(ye)徹底得到(dao)改(gai)變。先(xian)是(shi)在(zai)ABC的(de)熱播(bo)電視劇(ju)《政(zheng)界小人(ren)物》(Spin City)中(zhong)替代邁(mai)克(ke)爾·福克(ke)斯，吸(xi)引了CBS主(zhu)管人(ren)員的(de)眼(yan)球，被(bei)選入(ru)(ru)《人(ren)人(ren)都(dou)愛雷蒙德》(Everybody Loves Raymond)等(deng)電視劇(ju)集(ji)的(de)陣(zhen)容。尤其是(shi)他(ta)在(zai)《好漢(han)兩個半(ban)》(Two and a Half Men)中(zhong)的(de)入(ru)(ru)神表演，為他(ta)走(zou)入(ru)(ru)下(xia)坡(po)路的(de)演藝事業注入(ru)(ru)一(yi)股新的(de)活力。
2002年，他和演員(yuan)同(tong)事(shi)丹尼斯(si)·理查德(de)結婚(hun)。2004年3月(yue)有了一(yi)個(ge)女兒，不(bu)久(jiu)丹尼斯(si)再(zai)次(ci)懷孕。媒體關(guan)于兩(liang)人(ren)婚(hun)姻(yin)的報道都是(shi)積極的、正面的，但(dan)好(hao)景(jing)不(bu)長(chang)(chang)，和以前每次(ci)婚(hun)姻(yin)一(yi)樣，查理和丹尼斯(si)的婚(hun)姻(yin)沒有能(neng)夠長(chang)(chang)久(jiu)，兩(liang)人(ren)于2005年3月(yue)離(li)婚(hun)。
2015年11月17日，好萊塢演藝圈某男性被(bei)曝罹患艾滋(zi)病，隨后，有報道(dao)證(zheng)實該男星(xing)就是(shi)查(cha)理·辛，且已經隱(yin)瞞病情(qing)1年多。雖然僅(jin)向(xiang)身邊好友透露(lu)病情(qing)，但(dan)查(cha)理·辛卻反遭(zao)對方(fang)威脅，要(yao)他支付封口費。
2015年(nian)11月(yue)17日，查(cha)理·辛承認感染(ran)愛滋病毒，坦承自(zi)己4年(nian)前診斷出(chu)感染(ran)HIV，但他(ta)不(bu)清楚(chu)為何會(hui)感染(ran)。
