弘(hong)治(zhi)(zhi)十(shi)三年(1500)嘗(chang)為唐(tang)寅作《荷池消夏圖(tu)》圖(tu)錄于《藝(yi)林(lin)月刊》八十(shi)四期。傳世作品有《招仙(xian)圖(tu)》卷、弘(hong)治(zhi)(zhi)十(shi)四年(1501)作《秋林(lin)高士圖(tu)》軸(有文徵明楷書題跋)現藏(zang)故宮博物(wu)院;《漁樂圖(tu)》軸藏(zang)臺北(bei)故宮博物(wu)院;弘(hong)治(zhi)(zhi)十(shi)七年(1504)作《織女圖(tu)》軸藏(zang)上(shang)海博物(wu)館。
其生平按(an)《吳(wu)越(yue)所(suo)見(jian)書(shu)畫(hua)錄》載:“夢(meng)晉與唐六如(ru)、祝(zhu)希哲同時(shi)友善,畫(hua)更(geng)(geng)高于(yu)(yu)六如(ru),死(si)亦更(geng)(geng)早。”言(yan)張(zhang)靈(ling)死(si)在(zai)唐寅(yin)(1470—1523)之(zhi)前。徐(xu)禎(zhen)卿(qing)《新倩(qian)籍》中有(you)記張(zhang)靈(ling)詩文(wen)(略),極盡悲(bei)悼哀憫之(zhi)情。按(an)徐(xu)禎(zhen)卿(qing)卒于(yu)(yu)1511年,時(shi)唐寅(yin)四十二歲,而張(zhang)靈(ling)必卒于(yu)(yu)徐(xu)之(zhi)前,由此推(tui)知(zhi)張(zhang)靈(ling)生于(yu)(yu)成化,約卒于(yu)(yu)正德初,年四十左右。

余少時,閱唐解元《六如集(ji)》有云:“六如嘗與祝枝山、張夢晉,大雪中效乞兒(er)唱(chang)《蓮花(hua)》,得錢沽酒(jiu),痛飲野寺中。曰:‘此樂,惜不(bu)令太白見之(zhi)(zhi)。’”心竊疑焉,然不(bu)知夢晉為何許人(ren)也。頃閱稗(bai)乘中,有一(yi)編曰《十美圖(tu)》,乃詳載張夢晉、崔素(su)瓊事。不(bu)覺驚(jing)喜叫跳,已而(er)潸然雨泣。此真古今來才子(zi)佳人(ren)之(zhi)(zhi)軼事也,不(bu)可以(yi)不(bu)傳(chuan),遂為之(zhi)(zhi)傳(chuan)。
張夢晉(jin),名靈,蓋正德時吳縣人(ren)(ren)也(ye)。生而(er)姿(zi)容俊爽,才調無雙,工詩善(shan)畫,性風流豪放,不(bu)可一世。家故赤貧,而(er)靈獨蚤慧。當舞勺時,父命靈出應(ying)童子試(shi),輒以(yi)冠(guan)軍(jun)補弟子員。靈心顧不(bu)樂,以(yi)為才人(ren)(ren)何苦為章縫束(shu)縛,遂(sui)絕意不(bu)欲復應(ying)試(shi)。日縱酒高吟,不(bu)肯妄交人(ren)(ren),人(ren)(ren)亦不(bu)敢輕交與。惟與唐解元六(liu)(liu)如作忘年友。靈既氏,不(bu)娶。六(liu)(liu)如試(shi)叩(kou)之。靈笑曰:“君豈(qi)有(you)中(zhong)意人(ren)(ren)足當吾偶者耶?”六(liu)(liu)如曰:“無之。但(dan)自(zi)古才子宜配佳人(ren)(ren),吾聊以(yi)此探君耳(er)。”靈曰:“固然,今(jin)豈(qi)有(you)其人(ren)(ren)哉?求之數千年中(zhong),可當才子佳人(ren)(ren)者,惟李太白與崔鶯(ying)鶯(ying)耳(er)。吾唯(wei)不(bu)才,然自(zi)謫(zhe)仙而(er)外(wai),似(si)不(bu)敢多(duo)讓。若(ruo)雙文(wen),惜下嫁鄭(zheng)恒(heng),正未(wei)知果識張君瑞(rui)否?”六(liu)(liu)如曰:“謹(jin)受教。吾自(zi)今(jin)請為君訪之,期得雙文(wen)以(yi)報命,可乎?”遂(sui)大(da)笑別去。
一(yi)(yi)日,靈(ling)(ling)獨(du)坐(zuo)讀《劉(liu)(liu)伶傳(chuan)》,命童子進(jin)酒,屢讀屢叫絕,輒拍案(an)浮一(yi)(yi)大白(bai)。久之(zhi),童子跪(gui)進(jin)曰(yue):“酒罄矣。今日唐解元與祝京兆宴(yan)集虎丘,公何(he)不(bu)挾此(ci)編一(yi)(yi)往索醉耶(ye)?”靈(ling)(ling)大喜(xi),即(ji)行(xing)。然不(bu)欲(yu)為(wei)不(bu)速(su)客(ke)(ke),乃屏棄(qi)衣(yi)冠,科跣雙髻,衣(yi)鶉結,左(zuo)持《劉(liu)(liu)伶傳(chuan)》,右持木(mu)杖,謳吟道(dao)情詞,行(xing)乞而前。抵虎丘,見(jian)貴游蟻聚,綺(qi)席喧闐。靈(ling)(ling)每過一(yi)(yi)處,輒執(zhi)書向客(ke)(ke)曰(yue):“劉(liu)(liu)伶告飲!”客(ke)(ke)見(jian)其美丈(zhang)夫,不(bu)類丐者,競以酒饌貽之(zhi)。有(you)數(shu)賈人,方酌酒賦詩(shi),靈(ling)(ling)至前,請屬和。賈人笑之(zhi)。其詩(shi)中有(you)蒼官、青(qing)士、撲握(wo)、伊尼四事,因指以問靈(ling)(ling)。靈(ling)(ling)曰(yue):“松竹(zhu)兔鹿,誰不(bu)知耶(ye)?”賈人始駭。令康詩(shi),靈(ling)(ling)即(ji)立揮(hui)百絕而去。遙見(jian)六(liu)如及祝京兆枝山(shan)數(shu)輩,共集可(ke)中亭(ting)。亦趨前執(zhi)書告飲。六(liu)如早(zao)已知為(wei)靈(ling)(ling),見(jian)其佯狂(kuang)游戲,戒座(zuo)客(ke)(ke)佯為(wei)不(bu)識者,以觀之(zhi)。語靈(ling)(ling)曰(yue):“爾(er)(er)丐子持書行(xing)乞,想能賦詩(shi)。試題(ti)悟石(shi)軒一(yi)(yi)絕句,如佳,即(ji)賜爾(er)(er)卮(zhi)酒;否則(ze),當叩爾(er)(er)脛。”靈(ling)(ling)曰(yue):“易耳。”童子遂進(jin)毫(hao)楮。靈(ling)(ling)即(ji)書云:
勝跡天成(cheng)說虎(hu)丘(qiu),可中(zhong)亭畔足(zu)酣游。
吟(yin)詩豈讓生公法(fa),頑石如何不點(dian)頭。
遂并毫(hao)楮擲(zhi)地曰(yue)(yue):“佳哉!擲(zhi)地金聲也(ye)(ye)。”六如覽之,大(da)笑(xiao)。因(yin)呼(hu)與(yu)共飲(yin)(yin)。時,觀者(zhe)如堵,莫不相(xiang)顧驚怪。靈既醉,即(ji)拂衣起,仍執(zhi)書向悟石軒氏(shi)揖曰(yue)(yue):“劉(liu)伶謝(xie)飲(yin)(yin)!”遂不別座客徑去(qu)。六如謂枝山(shan)(shan)曰(yue)(yue):“今日我輩此(ci)(ci)舉,不減晉人風流,宜寫一幀,為《張(zhang)靈行乞(qi)(qi)圖》,吾(wu)任繪事(shi),而公題跋(ba)之,亦(yi)千秋(qiu)佳話(hua)也(ye)(ye)。”即(ji)舐筆伸紙,俄頃(qing)圖成。技山(shan)(shan)題數語其后(hou)。座客爭傳玩嘆賞。忽一翁(weng)縞衣素(su)冠,前揖曰(yue)(yue):“二(er)公即(ji)唐解(jie)元、祝京兆耶?仆企慕有(you)年,何幸識(shi)韓!”六如遜謝(xie),徐叩之,則南昌明(ming)經崔文博以海虞廣文告歸者(zhe)也(ye)(ye)。翁(weng)得圖諦視(shi),不忍釋手。因(yin)訊適行乞(qi)(qi)者(zhe)為誰(shui)。六如曰(yue)(yue):“敝里才(cai)于張(zhang)靈也(ye)(ye)。”翁(weng)曰(yue)(yue):“誠然,此(ci)(ci)固非真才(cai)子(zi)不能。”即(ji)向六如乞(qi)(qi)此(ci)(ci)圖歸。將返舟(zhou),見舟(zhou)已移(yi)泊他(ta)所,呼(hu)之始(shi)至。蓋翁(weng)有(you)女素(su)瓊(qiong)者(zhe),名瑩(ying)(ying),才(cai)貌俱絕世。以新喪母(mu),隨翁(weng)扶櫬歸。先(xian)艤(yi)舟(zhou)岸側時,聞人聲喧沸,乍(zha)啟檻窺之。則見一丐(gai)者(zhe),狀貌殊不俗(su)。丐(gai)者(zhe)亦(yi)熟(shu)視(shi)檻中,忽登舟(zhou)長跪,自陳張(zhang)靈求見,屢發遣不去(qu)。良久(jiu),有(you)一童子(zi)入舟(zhou),強挽之,始(shi)去(qu)。故瑩(ying)(ying)命(ming)移(yi)舟(zhou)避之。崔翁(weng)乃出圖示瑩(ying)(ying),且(qie)備述(shu)其故,瑩(ying)(ying)始(shi)知行乞(qi)(qi)者(zhe)為張(zhang)靈。嘆曰(yue)(yue):“此(ci)(ci)乃真風流才(cai)子(zi)也(ye)(ye)!”取圖藏笥中。翁(weng)擬以明(ming)日往謁唐、祝二(er)君(jun),因(yin)訪靈。忽抱疴數日不起,為榜人所促,遽(ju)返豫(yu)章。
靈(ling)(ling)既于(yu)舟次見(jian)瑩,以(yi)為絕代佳人,也(ye)(ye)難再得(de)。遂(sui)日走虎丘偵(zhen)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),久之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)查然。屬靳人方志來(lai)校士。志既深惡(e)古文詞,而又聞(wen)(wen)靈(ling)(ling)跅(tuo)弛不羈(ji),竟(jing)褫其(qi)諸(zhu)(zhu)生。靈(ling)(ling)聞(wen)(wen)乃大喜(xi)曰(yue):“吾(wu)正苦章縫束(shu)縛,今幸免矣!顧一(yi)(yi)(yi)褫,何(he)慮再褫;且彼能褫吾(wu)諸(zhu)(zhu)生之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)名,亦能褫吾(wu)才子之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)名乎?”遂(sui)往過六(liu)如(ru)家(jia),見(jian)車騎填門,胥尉盈座。則江右寧藩宸濠(hao)遣使來(lai)迎者也(ye)(ye)。六(liu)如(ru)擬赴(fu)其(qi)招。靈(ling)(ling)曰(yue):“甚善(shan)(shan)!吾(wu)正有厚望于(yu)君(jun)(jun)。吾(wu)曩者虎莊所遇之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)佳人,即豫章人也(ye)(ye)。乞君(jun)(jun)為我(wo)多(duo)方訪之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),冀(ji)得(de)當以(yi)報我(wo),此開天辟地第一(yi)(yi)(yi)吃緊事(shi)也(ye)(ye)。幸無忽(hu)忘。”六(liu)如(ru)曰(yue):“諾。”即偕藩使過豫章。時,宸濠(hao)久蓄異謀,其(qi)招致六(liu)如(ru),一(yi)(yi)(yi)博好賢(xian)虛譽;一(yi)(yi)(yi)慕六(liu)如(ru)詩畫(hua)(hua)兼扶,欲倩其(qi)作(zuo)《十美(mei)(mei)圖(tu)(tu)》,獻之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)九(jiu)重(zhong)。其(qi)時宮中已覓得(de)九(jiu)人,尚虛其(qi)一(yi)(yi)(yi)。六(liu)如(ru)請(qing)先寫(xie)(xie)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。遂(sui)為寫(xie)(xie)九(jiu)美(mei)(mei),而各綴七絕一(yi)(yi)(yi)章于(yu)后。九(jiu)美(mei)(mei)者:廣陵湯之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)靄字雨(yu)君(jun)(jun),善(shan)(shan)畫(hua)(hua);姑蘇木桂文舟,善(shan)(shan)琴;嘉禾朱(zhu)嘉淑文孺,善(shan)(shan)書;金陵錢韶鳳生,善(shan)(shan)歌;江陵熊御小馮(feng),善(shan)(shan)舞;荊溪杜若芳(fang)(fang)洲,善(shan)(shan)箏;洛陽花尊(zun)朱(zhu)芳(fang)(fang),善(shan)(shan)等;錢唐柳春陽絮(xu)才,善(shan)(shan)瑟;公安薛幼端端清,善(shan)(shan)簫也(ye)(ye)。圖(tu)(tu)詠既成,進之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)濠(hao),濠(hao)大悅。乃盛設特宴六(liu)如(ru),而別一(yi)(yi)(yi)殿僚季(ji)生副(fu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。季(ji)生者,憸(xian)人也(ye)(ye)。酒次,請(qing)觀九(jiu)美(mei)(mei)圖(tu)(tu)。因進曰(yue):“十美(mei)(mei)欠一(yi)(yi)(yi),殊屬缺陷(xian)。某愿舉(ju)一(yi)(yi)(yi)人以(yi)充其(qi)數,詰朝(chao)請(qing)持圖(tu)(tu)來(lai)獻。”比持圖(tu)(tu)以(yi)獻,即崔(cui)瑩也(ye)(ye)。濠(hao)見(jian)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)曰(yue):“此真國色(se)矣!”即屬季(ji)生往說之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。
先是(shi),崔翁(weng)家居(ju)時,瑩才名噪甚,求(qiu)姻者踵至,翁(weng)度(du)非瑩匹,悉(xi)拒不(bu)納(na)。既從(cong)虎丘得張靈(ling),遂(sui)雅(ya)屬意靈(ling),不(bu)意疾作遽歸。思夏往吳中,托六如主其(qi)事。適季生旋里喪耦,熟(shu)聞瑩名,預遣(qian)女畫師(shi)潛(qian)繪其(qi)容(rong),而求(qiu)姻于翁(weng)。翁(weng)謀諸(zhu)瑩,瑩固不(bu)許(xu)。于是(shi),季生銜之,因假手于濠,以泄(xie)私忿。時濠威殊張甚,翁(weng)再三力辭,不(bu)得。瑩窘(jiong)激欲自裁,翁(weng)復多方護(hu)之。瑩嘆(tan)曰(yue):“命也,已(yi)矣!夫(fu)復何言!”乃取笥中《行(xing)乞圖》自題(ti)詩其(qi)上云:
才子(zi)風流第一(yi)人,愿隨行乞樂清貧(pin)。入宮祇恐無紅葉,臨別題詩當會真。
舉(ju)以(yi)(yi)授翁(weng)曰:“愿持此復(fu)(fu)張(zhang)郎,俾知(zhi)世間有情(qing)癡(chi)女子如(ru)(ru)(ru)崔素瓊者,亦不(bu)虛其為一(yi)生(sheng)才子也!”遂慟哭入宮(gong)(gong)。濠(hao)得(de)(de)之喜甚,復(fu)(fu)倩六(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)圖(tu)(tu)詠,以(yi)(yi)為十(shi)美(mei)之冠。而六(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)先已取季(ji)生(sheng)所(suo)獻者,摹得(de)(de)一(yi)紙藏之。瑩(ying)既知(zhi)六(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)在宮(gong)(gong)中,乘間密(mi)致一(yi)緘,以(yi)(yi)述己(ji)意(yi)。六(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)得(de)(de)緘,乃大驚惋,始(shi)知(zhi)此女即靈(ling)所(suo)托訪(fang)者。“今(jin)事既不(bu)諧(xie),復(fu)(fu)為繪圖(tu)(tu)進(jin)獻,豈(qi)非千(qian)古罪人(ren)!將來何面目見良友!”因(yin)急詣崔翁(weng),索得(de)(de)《行乞圖(tu)(tu)》返宮(gong)(gong),將相機(ji)維挽。不(bu)意(yi)十(shi)美(mei)已即日就(jiu)道,六(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)悔恨無已。又見濠(hao)逆跡漸著,急欲辭歸(gui)(gui),苦為濠(hao)羈縻。乃發狂,號呼顛擲,溲穢狼藉。濠(hao)久之不(bu)能堪,仍遣使送歸(gui)(gui),杜門月余乃起。過張(zhang)靈(ling)時,靈(ling)已頹(tui)然臥病矣。
蓋靈(ling)(ling)自(zi)別六(liu)如后(hou),邑邑亡憀,日(ri)(ri)縱酒(jiu)狂呼,或(huo)(huo)歌(ge)或(huo)(huo)哭(ku)。一(yi)日(ri)(ri)中(zhong)秋,獨走虎丘千人(ren)(ren)(ren)石畔,見(jian)(jian)優伶演(yan)劇,靈(ling)(ling)佇視良久(jiu),忽(hu)大叫曰:“爾等所(suo)演(yan)不(bu)(bu)(bu)佳,待吾演(yan)王子晉吹笙跨鶴!”遂(sui)控(kong)一(yi)童(tong)子于地(di)(di)而跨其背(bei),攫伶人(ren)(ren)(ren)笙吹之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),命(ming)童(tong)子作鶴飛;捶之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)不(bu)(bu)(bu)起,童(tong)子怒,掀靈(ling)(ling)于地(di)(di)。靈(ling)(ling)起曰:“鶴不(bu)(bu)(bu)肯(ken)飛,吾今既不(bu)(bu)(bu)得為天仙(xian)(xian),惟當作水中(zhong)仙(xian)(xian)耳!”遂(sui)躍入(ru)(ru)劍池(chi)中(zhong)。眾(zhong)急(ji)救(jiu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)出(chu)(chu),則面額俱損,且傷股不(bu)(bu)(bu)能(neng)行,人(ren)(ren)(ren)送(song)其歸家(jia)。自(zi)此委頓枕席(xi),日(ri)(ri)日(ri)(ri)在醉夢中(zhong)。至(zhi)是,忽(hu)聞六(liu)如至(zhi),乃(nai)從榻間躍起,急(ji)叩(kou)豫(yu)章佳人(ren)(ren)(ren)狀。六(liu)如出(chu)(chu)所(suo)摹(mo)素瓊圖示之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。靈(ling)(ling)一(yi)見(jian)(jian),詫為天人(ren)(ren)(ren),急(ji)捧(peng)置案問(wen),頂禮跪拜(bai),自(zi)陳“才子張(zhang)靈(ling)(ling)拜(bai)謁”云(yun)云(yun)。已(yi)(yi)(yi),聞瑩已(yi)(yi)(yi)入(ru)(ru)宮,乃(nai)撫圖痛哭(ku)。六(liu)如復出(chu)(chu)瑩所(suo)題《行乞(qi)圖》示之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。靈(ling)(ling)讀罷,益痛哭(ku)。大呼:“佳人(ren)(ren)(ren)崔素瓊!”隨蹄(ti)地(di)(di)嘔血不(bu)(bu)(bu)止。家(jia)人(ren)(ren)(ren)擁至(zhi)榻間,病愈甚。三日(ri)(ri)后(hou),邀六(liu)如與訣曰:“已(yi)(yi)(yi)矣(yi)!唐君!吾今真死矣(yi)!死后(hou),乞(qi)以(yi)此圖殉葬(zang)(zang)。”索筆書片紙云(yun):“張(zhang)靈(ling)(ling),字夢晉,風流放誕人(ren)(ren)(ren)也(ye),以(yi)情死。”遂(sui)擲筆而逝。六(liu)如哭(ku)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)慟,乃(nai)葬(zang)(zang)靈(ling)(ling)于玄墓山之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)麓,而以(yi)圖殉焉(yan)。檢其生(sheng)平文(wen)章,先已(yi)(yi)(yi)自(zi)焚,惟收(shou)其詩(shi)草(cao)及《行乞(qi)圖》以(yi)歸。
時(shi),瑩(ying)(ying)(ying)已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)率十(shi)美抵都。因駕(jia)幸榆林,久(jiu)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)未得進御。而宸濠(hao)已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)舉兵反(fan),為(wei)王守仁所敗,旋即就擒。駕(jia)還時(shi),以十(shi)美為(wei)逆(ni)藩所獻,悉(xi)遣歸母家(jia),聽其(qi)適人(ren)。于是瑩(ying)(ying)(ying)仍得返豫章(zhang)(zhang)。值崔(cui)翁(weng)已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)捐館舍(she),有(you)老仆崔(cui)恩(en)殯之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。瑩(ying)(ying)(ying)哀(ai)痛(tong)至甚。然煢孑無依,葬(zang)父已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)畢(bi),遂挈裝(zhuang)徑(jing)抵吳門,命崔(cui)恩(en)邀六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)相(xiang)見于舟次。瑩(ying)(ying)(ying)首(shou)訊張(zhang)(zhang)靈(ling)近狀,六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)愴然收涕曰(yue):“辱(ru)姊(zi)鍾情遠顧(gu),奈此(ci)(ci)君福薄(bo),今(jin)已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)為(wei)情鬼(gui)矣(yi)!”瑩(ying)(ying)(ying)聞(wen)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),嗚(wu)咽(yan)失(shi)聲。詢知(zhi)(zhi)靈(ling)葬(zang)于玄(xuan)墓(mu),約明(ming)(ming)日(ri)(ri)同往祭(ji)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)明(ming)(ming)日(ri)(ri)果攜靈(ling)詩草及《行(xing)藝圖》至,與瑩(ying)(ying)(ying)各(ge)橈舟抵靈(ling)墓(mu)所,瑩(ying)(ying)(ying)衣輒(zhe)酹,伏地拜(bai)哭甚哀(ai)。已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)乃(nai)懸《行(xing)乞(qi)圖》于墓(mu)前,陳設祭(ji)儀,坐石(shi)臺上,徐(xu)取靈(ling)詩草讀之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。每讀一(yi)章(zhang)(zhang),輒(zhe)酹酒一(yi)卮,大(da)呼:“張(zhang)(zhang)靈(ling)才(cai)子!”一(yi)呼一(yi)哭,哭罷又(you)讀,往復不休。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)不忍(ren)聞(wen),掩淚歸舟。而崔(cui)恩(en)佇(zhu)立已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)久(jiu),勸慰無從(cong),亦起去,徘徊丘垅間。及返,則瑩(ying)(ying)(ying)已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)自縊于臺畔(pan)。恩(en)大(da)驚,走告六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)趁(chen)視,見瑩(ying)(ying)(ying)已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)死。嘆息跪拜(bai)曰(yue):“大(da)難!大(da)難!我(wo)唐寅今(jin)日(ri)(ri)得見奇人(ren)奇事(shi)矣(yi)!”遂具棺(guan)衾,將易服斂(lian)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。而瑩(ying)(ying)(ying)通(tong)體(ti)衫襦(ru)皆細綴嚴密無少隙,知(zhi)(zhi)其(qi)矢死已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)久(jiu)。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)因取詩草及《行(xing)乞(qi)圖》,并置(zhi)棺(guan)中為(wei)殉(xun),啟靈(ling)擴與瑩(ying)(ying)(ying)同穴。而植碑題其(qi)上云:“明(ming)(ming)才(cai)子張(zhang)(zhang)夢晉、佳(jia)人(ren)崔(cui)素(su)瓊(qiong)合(he)葬(zang)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)墓(mu)”。時(shi),傾城士(shi)人(ren)哄傳感嘆,無貴賤賢愚,爭來吊誄,絡繹喧豗,云蒸雨集,哀(ai)聲動地,殆(dai)莫知(zhi)(zhi)其(qi)由也。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)既合(he)葬(zang)靈(ling)、瑩(ying)(ying)(ying),檢瑩(ying)(ying)(ying)所遺囊中裝(zhuang),為(wei)置(zhi)墓(mu)田(tian),營丙舍(she),命崔(cui)恩(en)居(ju)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),以供春秋奠掃(sao)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)役。嗚(wu)呼!才(cai)子佳(jia)人(ren),一(yi)旦至此(ci)(ci)。庶乎靈(ling)、瑩(ying)(ying)(ying)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)事(shi)畢(bi),而六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)事(shi)亦畢(bi)矣(yi)。
而六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)(ru)于(yu)明(ming)年(nian)仲春(chun),躬(gong)詣墓所拜奠。夜(ye)宿(su)丙舍(she)旁,輾轉不(bu)寐(mei),啟窗(chuang)縱目,則萬樹梅花(hua),一(yi)(yi)天明(ming)月,不(bu)知(zhi)(zhi)身在(zai)人(ren)(ren)(ren)世。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)(ru)悵然嘆曰(yue):“夢(meng)晉一(yi)(yi)生狂放、淪落不(bu)偶,今(jin)得與崔美人(ren)(ren)(ren)合(he)(he)葬此間,消受香光(guang),亦差可不(bu)負矣(yi)!但將未知(zhi)(zhi)誰葬我唐寅(yin)耳!”不(bu)覺欷歔泣下(xia)。忽遙聞有(you)(you)(you)人(ren)(ren)(ren)朗吟云:“花(hua)滿山(shan)(shan)中(zhong)高士(shi)臥(wo),月明(ming)林(lin)(lin)下(xia)美人(ren)(ren)(ren)來(lai)(lai)。”六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)(ru)急起入林(lin)(lin)迎揖,則張靈(ling)也。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)(ru)訝曰(yue):“君死(si)(si)(si)已久,安得來(lai)(lai)此吟高季迪詩?”靈(ling)笑曰(yue):“君以為我真(zhen)死(si)(si)(si)耶?死(si)(si)(si)者(zhe)形,不(bu)死(si)(si)(si)者(zhe)性,吾既為一(yi)(yi)世才(cai)子(zi),死(si)(si)(si)后豈若他人(ren)(ren)(ren)泯沒耶?今(jin)乘此花(hua)滿山(shan)(shan)中(zhong),高士(shi)偃臥(wo)時來(lai)(lai)造訪耳。”復舉手前指曰(yue):“此非‘月明(ming)林(lin)(lin)下(xia)美人(ren)(ren)(ren)來(lai)(lai)’乎?”六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)(ru)回顧,有(you)(you)(you)美人(ren)(ren)(ren)姍姍來(lai)(lai)前,則崔瑩也。于(yu)是,兩人(ren)(ren)(ren)攜(xie)手整(zheng)襟,向(xiang)六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)(ru)拜謝合(he)(he)葬之(zhi)德。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)(ru)方扶(fu)掖之(zhi),忽又有(you)(you)(you)人(ren)(ren)(ren)大呼曰(yue):“我高季迪梅花(hua)詩,乃(nai)千(qian)古絕(jue)唱,何物張靈(ling),妄稱才(cai)子(zi),改(gai)‘雪’為‘花(hua)’,定須(xu)飽我老拳!”六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)(ru)轉瞬之(zhi)間,靈(ling)、瑩俱(ju)失所在(zai)。其人(ren)(ren)(ren)直前呼曰(yue):“當捶(chui)此改(gai)詩之(zhi)賊才(cai)子(zi)!”捽六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)(ru)欲(yu)毆(ou)之(zhi),六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)(ru)驚寤。則半窗(chuang)明(ming)月,闃其無人(ren)(ren)(ren)。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)(ru)憮然,始信真(zhen)才(cai)子(zi)與真(zhen)佳人(ren)(ren)(ren),蓋死(si)(si)(si)而不(bu)死(si)(si)(si)也。因(yin)匡(kuang)坐梅窗(chuang)下(xia),作《張靈(ling)崔瑩合(he)(he)傳》以紀其事。然今(jin)日《六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)(ru)集》中(zhong),固未嘗(chang)見此傳也。余又安得而不(bu)亟補之(zhi)哉。
畸史氏(shi)曰(yue):嗟乎!蓋吾閱《十美(mei)圖編》,而(er)后(hou)知世間(jian)真有(you)才子佳(jia)(jia)人(ren)也。從來稗官(guan)家言,大抵真贗參半。若夢(meng)晉(jin)(jin)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)名,既章章于(yu)(yu)(yu)《六如集》中,但素瓊(qiong)(qiong)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)事(shi),無(wu)從考證。雖(sui)然(ran),有(you)其(qi)事(shi)何(he)必無(wu)其(qi)人(ren),且安(an)知非(fei)作者有(you)為而(er)發(fa)乎?獨怪夢(meng)晉(jin)(jin)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)才,目(mu)空千古(gu),而(er)其(qi)尚(shang)論才子佳(jia)(jia)人(ren),則專以(yi)(yi)太(tai)白與鶯鶯當(dang)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。夫太(tai)白誠天(tian)上仙才,不(bu)(bu)可有(you)二。若千古(gu)佳(jia)(jia)人(ren),自當(dang)以(yi)(yi)文君為第(di)一。而(er)夢(meng)晉(jin)(jin)顧(gu)舍(she)彼取此,厥后(hou),果遇素瓊(qiong)(qiong),毋乃思崔(cui)(cui)得崔(cui)(cui),適符(fu)其(qi)讖(chen)耶?至(zhi)于(yu)(yu)(yu)張以(yi)(yi)情死(si)(si),崔(cui)(cui)以(yi)(yi)情殉,初(chu)非(fei)有(you)一詞半縷之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)成約(yue),而(er)慷(kang)慨從容,等泰山于(yu)(yu)(yu)鴻毛,徒以(yi)(yi)才色相憐(lian)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)故(gu)。推此志也,凜凜生氣,日(ri)月爭(zheng)光,又遠出琴心(xin)犢鼻之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)上矣。而(er)或(huo)者猶追恨(hen)于(yu)(yu)(yu)夢(meng)晉(jin)(jin)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)早死(si)(si)。以(yi)(yi)為夢(meng)晉(jin)(jin)若不(bu)(bu)死(si)(si),則素瓊(qiong)(qiong)遣歸之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)日(ri),正崔(cui)(cui)張好(hao)合之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)年,后(hou)此或(huo)白頭唱和,蘭玉盈階,未可知也。噫!此固庸庸蚩蚩者之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)厚福也,何(he)有(you)于(yu)(yu)(yu)才子佳(jia)(jia)人(ren)哉(zai)!
張靈(ling)(ling)(ling)本窶人(ren)子,力作自給,而靈(ling)(ling)(ling)生(sheng)乃(nai)有(you)爽氣,嗜(shi)酒醉(zui)則作狂曰(yue):“日(ri)(ri)休,小豎(shu)子耳,尚能(neng)稱醉(zui)士(shi)(shi),我(wo)獨(du)不(bu)能(neng)醉(zui)耶!”所(suo)與(yu)游者,吳趨、唐(tang)寅最(zui)善,寅嘗擬游武丘,召靈(ling)(ling)(ling)與(yu)俱往,促(cu)之,尚臥,寅抵寢所(suo)呼曰(yue):“日(ri)(ri)高舂矣,睡何為?”靈(ling)(ling)(ling)覺(jue),怒曰(yue):“今者無酒,雅懷(huai)殊不(bu)啟。方入(ru)醉(zui)鄉,又為相攪。”寅曰(yue):“所(suo)以來,固(gu)欲邀子。”靈(ling)(ling)(ling)喜(xi),加衣(yi)起,遂與(yu)寅上舟扣舷痛飲,作《野(ye)人(ren)歌》。會數賈(jia)(jia)(jia)飲于(yu)可(ke)中亭,且(qie)詠詩,因(yin)更衣(yi)為丐者上,賈(jia)(jia)(jia)與(yu)食啖之,靈(ling)(ling)(ling)請續(xu)和。時賈(jia)(jia)(jia)所(suo)為詩有(you)“蒼(cang)官”、“青士(shi)(shi)”、“撲握(wo)”,“伊(yi)尼”諸詞,因(yin)以問靈(ling)(ling)(ling),靈(ling)(ling)(ling)曰(yue):“蒼(cang)官,松也;青士(shi)(shi),竹也;撲握(wo),免也;伊(yi)尼,鹿也。”賈(jia)(jia)(jia)始(shi)駭令(ling)賡(geng),靈(ling)(ling)(ling)即揮(hui)毫不(bu)已,凡百絕。抵舟,命童子易(yi)維蘿陰下令(ling)跡絕。賈(jia)(jia)(jia)使(shi)人(ren)察之,不(bu)見也。皆以為神仙。賈(jia)(jia)(jia)去(qu),復上亭,朱衣(yi)金目,作胡人(ren)舞形狀,殊絕。
祝(zhu)允明(ming)嘗偕陸濟(ji)民、張夢晉、韓壽(shou)椿登虎(hu)丘浮屠(tu)。登至絕(jue)頂,但見八荒洞然,萬(wan)籟(lai)齊發,飲酒樂(le)甚。壽(shou)椿出(chu)紙筆(bi)賦(fu)詩(shi)(shi)以紀其(qi)(qi)游,允明(ming)詩(shi)(shi)先成,云(yun)(yun):“草(cao)木(mu)衣裳下,煙霞掌握中。偶然飛(fei)咳唾,珠玉滿(man)天(tian)風(feng)(feng)。”濟(ji)民云(yun)(yun):“極目飛(fei)鴻小(xiao),致身云(yun)(yun)路中。詩(shi)(shi)人少知(zhi)己,發付(fu)與東(dong)風(feng)(feng)。”夢晉云(yun)(yun):“慮遣塵寰外,天(tian)歸眼界中。新(xin)詩(shi)(shi)三百首,句(ju)(ju)句(ju)(ju)答(da)松風(feng)(feng)。”壽(shou)椿云(yun)(yun):“詩(shi)(shi)寄千峰抄(chao),春橫一(yi)鏡中。攜壺兼荷鐘,不減(jian)晉人風(feng)(feng)。”詩(shi)(shi)成閣筆(bi),天(tian)風(feng)(feng)颯然飄其(qi)(qi)詩(shi)(shi)草(cao),盤(pan)旋直上太虛(xu),如(ru)神(shen)物掀舞。將(jiang)擲地,又為蒼鷹所舉,竟不知(zhi)其(qi)(qi)所止。遂名為“飛(fei)詩(shi)(shi)會。”
初(chu),張靈(ling)(ling)(ling)與唐寅(yin)俱為(wei)(wei)郡(jun)學生,博(bo)古相尚(shang)。適鄞人方志來督學,惡古文詞(ci),察知(zhi)(zhi)寅(yin),欲中(zhong)傷之,靈(ling)(ling)(ling)挹(yi)郁不(bu)(bu)自(zi)遣。寅(yin)曰(yue)(yue):“子未(wei)為(wei)(wei)所(suo)知(zhi)(zhi),何愁之甚?”靈(ling)(ling)(ling)曰(yue)(yue):“獨不(bu)(bu)聞龍王欲斬有尾族,蝦蟆亦(yi)哭乎(hu)?”后靈(ling)(ling)(ling)果為(wei)(wei)所(suo)斥罷,或謂之曰(yue)(yue):“以子之才(cai),顧不(bu)(bu)得(de)激致青云(yun),乃重遭顯棄,豈無雉(zhi)經之用(yong)(yong),而何以立于世?”靈(ling)(ling)(ling)曰(yue)(yue):“昔謝(xie)豹化為(wei)(wei)蟲,行地中(zhong),以足覆面(mian)作(zuo)(zuo)忍恥狀。吏靈(ling)(ling)(ling)用(yong)(yong)子言,亦(yi)當如是矣(yi)。縱不(bu)(bu)爾,亦(yi)安得(de)更(geng)銜鑿(zao)落(luo)耶(ye)!”靈(ling)(ling)(ling)臨終前三日(ri)(ri)作(zuo)(zuo)詩云(yun):“一(yi)(yi)枚蟬蛻(tui)榻當中(zhong),命(ming)也難辭付大空。垂死尚(shang)思(si)玄墓麓,滿(man)山寒雪一(yi)(yi)林(lin)松(song)。”后一(yi)(yi)日(ri)(ri)又作(zuo)(zuo)詩云(yun):“彷佛飛魂(hun)亂哭聲(sheng),多情于此轉多情。欲將(jiang)眾淚(lei)澆心火,何日(ri)(ri)張家再托生?”聞者莫不(bu)(bu)悲之。
