弘治十三年(1500)嘗(chang)為唐寅(yin)作(zuo)《荷池消夏圖(tu)(tu)(tu)(tu)》圖(tu)(tu)(tu)(tu)錄于《藝林月刊》八十四期。傳世作(zuo)品有《招仙圖(tu)(tu)(tu)(tu)》卷、弘治十四年(1501)作(zuo)《秋林高士圖(tu)(tu)(tu)(tu)》軸(zhou)(有文(wen)徵明楷書題跋)現藏故宮博物(wu)院;《漁樂圖(tu)(tu)(tu)(tu)》軸(zhou)藏臺北故宮博物(wu)院;弘治十七年(1504)作(zuo)《織女圖(tu)(tu)(tu)(tu)》軸(zhou)藏上海博物(wu)館(guan)。
其生平(ping)按《吳越所見書(shu)畫錄》載:“夢晉與唐(tang)(tang)六如(ru)、祝希(xi)哲同(tong)時(shi)友善(shan),畫更(geng)(geng)高于(yu)(yu)六如(ru),死亦更(geng)(geng)早。”言張(zhang)靈死在唐(tang)(tang)寅(yin)(1470—1523)之前。徐禎卿《新倩籍》中有記張(zhang)靈詩文(略),極盡悲悼(dao)哀憫(min)之情(qing)。按徐禎卿卒于(yu)(yu)1511年,時(shi)唐(tang)(tang)寅(yin)四(si)十二歲,而張(zhang)靈必卒于(yu)(yu)徐之前,由此推知(zhi)張(zhang)靈生于(yu)(yu)成化,約卒于(yu)(yu)正德初,年四(si)十左右(you)。

余少時,閱唐解(jie)元《六(liu)如集》有云:“六(liu)如嘗與(yu)祝枝(zhi)山、張(zhang)夢晉,大雪中效乞(qi)兒(er)唱《蓮花》,得錢沽酒,痛飲野(ye)寺中。曰:‘此(ci)(ci)樂,惜不(bu)(bu)令太(tai)白見(jian)之(zhi)。’”心竊疑焉,然(ran)(ran)不(bu)(bu)知夢晉為(wei)何許人也(ye)。頃閱稗乘中,有一編曰《十美圖》,乃詳載張(zhang)夢晉、崔(cui)素瓊(qiong)事(shi)。不(bu)(bu)覺驚喜叫跳,已而潸然(ran)(ran)雨泣。此(ci)(ci)真古今來才子佳(jia)人之(zhi)軼事(shi)也(ye),不(bu)(bu)可(ke)以不(bu)(bu)傳,遂為(wei)之(zhi)傳。
張(zhang)夢晉,名(ming)靈(ling),蓋正(zheng)德時(shi)吳縣人(ren)(ren)也。生而(er)姿容俊爽,才(cai)(cai)調無雙,工(gong)詩善畫,性(xing)風流豪放,不可(ke)一世。家故赤貧,而(er)靈(ling)獨(du)蚤慧。當(dang)舞勺時(shi),父命靈(ling)出應童子(zi)試(shi)(shi),輒以(yi)冠軍補弟子(zi)員。靈(ling)心顧不樂,以(yi)為才(cai)(cai)人(ren)(ren)何苦為章縫束縛(fu),遂(sui)(sui)絕意不欲(yu)復(fu)應試(shi)(shi)。日縱酒高吟,不肯妄交人(ren)(ren),人(ren)(ren)亦不敢(gan)輕交與(yu)(yu)。惟與(yu)(yu)唐解元六(liu)如(ru)(ru)作忘年友。靈(ling)既氏,不娶(qu)。六(liu)如(ru)(ru)試(shi)(shi)叩(kou)之(zhi)。靈(ling)笑(xiao)曰(yue):“君(jun)豈(qi)有中意人(ren)(ren)足當(dang)吾偶者(zhe)耶?”六(liu)如(ru)(ru)曰(yue):“無之(zhi)。但自古才(cai)(cai)子(zi)宜配佳人(ren)(ren),吾聊以(yi)此探君(jun)耳(er)。”靈(ling)曰(yue):“固然(ran),今豈(qi)有其人(ren)(ren)哉?求(qiu)之(zhi)數千年中,可(ke)當(dang)才(cai)(cai)子(zi)佳人(ren)(ren)者(zhe),惟李太白與(yu)(yu)崔鶯(ying)鶯(ying)耳(er)。吾唯不才(cai)(cai),然(ran)自謫(zhe)仙而(er)外,似(si)不敢(gan)多(duo)讓。若雙文,惜下嫁鄭恒,正(zheng)未知果識張(zhang)君(jun)瑞否?”六(liu)如(ru)(ru)曰(yue):“謹受教。吾自今請為君(jun)訪之(zhi),期得(de)雙文以(yi)報命,可(ke)乎(hu)?”遂(sui)(sui)大笑(xiao)別(bie)去。
一(yi)日(ri),靈(ling)獨坐讀《劉(liu)伶傳》,命童(tong)子進(jin)(jin)酒,屢(lv)讀屢(lv)叫(jiao)絕(jue),輒拍案浮一(yi)大白。久之(zhi),童(tong)子跪進(jin)(jin)曰:“酒罄矣(yi)。今日(ri)唐解元與祝京兆宴集虎丘,公何不(bu)挾此編一(yi)往索醉(zui)耶(ye)?”靈(ling)大喜,即(ji)(ji)行。然不(bu)欲為(wei)不(bu)速(su)客,乃(nai)屏棄衣冠,科(ke)跣(xian)雙髻,衣鶉結,左持《劉(liu)伶傳》,右持木杖,謳吟道情詞(ci),行乞而(er)前(qian)。抵(di)虎丘,見貴游蟻聚(ju),綺席喧闐。靈(ling)每過一(yi)處,輒執書(shu)向客曰:“劉(liu)伶告飲!”客見其(qi)(qi)美丈夫,不(bu)類丐者(zhe),競以酒饌貽(yi)之(zhi)。有數賈(jia)(jia)人,方酌酒賦詩(shi),靈(ling)至前(qian),請屬和(he)。賈(jia)(jia)人笑之(zhi)。其(qi)(qi)詩(shi)中(zhong)(zhong)有蒼(cang)官、青士(shi)、撲握、伊(yi)尼四事(shi),因指以問靈(ling)。靈(ling)曰:“松竹兔鹿,誰(shui)不(bu)知(zhi)耶(ye)?”賈(jia)(jia)人始駭。令康詩(shi),靈(ling)即(ji)(ji)立揮百絕(jue)而(er)去(qu)。遙(yao)見六(liu)如(ru)及祝京兆枝(zhi)山數輩,共集可中(zhong)(zhong)亭(ting)。亦趨前(qian)執書(shu)告飲。六(liu)如(ru)早已知(zhi)為(wei)靈(ling),見其(qi)(qi)佯狂(kuang)游戲,戒座客佯為(wei)不(bu)識者(zhe),以觀之(zhi)。語靈(ling)曰:“爾丐子持書(shu)行乞,想能賦詩(shi)。試(shi)題悟石軒(xuan)一(yi)絕(jue)句,如(ru)佳,即(ji)(ji)賜爾卮酒;否則,當(dang)叩爾脛。”靈(ling)曰:“易耳。”童(tong)子遂進(jin)(jin)毫楮。靈(ling)即(ji)(ji)書(shu)云:
勝跡(ji)天成說(shuo)虎丘,可中亭畔足酣游。
吟詩(shi)豈讓生公法(fa),頑石如何不點頭。
遂并(bing)毫楮(chu)擲地(di)曰:“佳(jia)哉!擲地(di)金(jin)聲也(ye)。”六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)覽(lan)之(zhi)(zhi),大笑。因(yin)呼與共飲(yin)。時,觀者(zhe)如(ru)(ru)堵,莫不(bu)(bu)相(xiang)顧驚怪。靈(ling)(ling)(ling)既醉,即(ji)(ji)拂衣(yi)起(qi),仍執書向(xiang)悟石軒(xuan)氏揖曰:“劉(liu)伶(ling)謝(xie)飲(yin)!”遂不(bu)(bu)別(bie)座客徑去(qu)。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)謂枝山(shan)曰:“今日(ri)(ri)(ri)我輩此(ci)舉,不(bu)(bu)減晉人風流,宜寫一(yi)幀,為(wei)《張(zhang)(zhang)靈(ling)(ling)(ling)行(xing)乞(qi)(qi)圖(tu)(tu)(tu)》,吾任繪事,而(er)公題跋(ba)之(zhi)(zhi),亦千秋佳(jia)話也(ye)。”即(ji)(ji)舐筆伸紙,俄(e)頃圖(tu)(tu)(tu)成。技山(shan)題數語其后。座客爭傳玩嘆賞。忽一(yi)翁(weng)縞(gao)衣(yi)素冠(guan),前揖曰:“二(er)公即(ji)(ji)唐(tang)(tang)解元、祝京兆耶?仆企慕(mu)有(you)年,何幸(xing)識韓!”六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)遜謝(xie),徐叩(kou)之(zhi)(zhi),則南(nan)昌明經崔文博以(yi)海虞廣文告(gao)歸者(zhe)也(ye)。翁(weng)得圖(tu)(tu)(tu)諦視,不(bu)(bu)忍(ren)釋手。因(yin)訊(xun)適(shi)行(xing)乞(qi)(qi)者(zhe)為(wei)誰。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)曰:“敝里才(cai)(cai)于(yu)張(zhang)(zhang)靈(ling)(ling)(ling)也(ye)。”翁(weng)曰:“誠然,此(ci)固(gu)非真才(cai)(cai)子(zi)不(bu)(bu)能。”即(ji)(ji)向(xiang)六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)乞(qi)(qi)此(ci)圖(tu)(tu)(tu)歸。將(jiang)返(fan)舟(zhou),見舟(zhou)已移泊(bo)他所,呼之(zhi)(zhi)始至。蓋(gai)翁(weng)有(you)女素瓊(qiong)者(zhe),名瑩(ying)(ying),才(cai)(cai)貌俱(ju)絕世(shi)。以(yi)新喪母,隨翁(weng)扶櫬歸。先艤舟(zhou)岸側時,聞人聲喧沸,乍啟檻(jian)窺之(zhi)(zhi)。則見一(yi)丐(gai)(gai)者(zhe),狀貌殊不(bu)(bu)俗。丐(gai)(gai)者(zhe)亦熟視檻(jian)中,忽登(deng)舟(zhou)長跪,自(zi)陳張(zhang)(zhang)靈(ling)(ling)(ling)求見,屢發遣不(bu)(bu)去(qu)。良久,有(you)一(yi)童子(zi)入舟(zhou),強挽(wan)之(zhi)(zhi),始去(qu)。故瑩(ying)(ying)命移舟(zhou)避之(zhi)(zhi)。崔翁(weng)乃(nai)出圖(tu)(tu)(tu)示瑩(ying)(ying),且備述其故,瑩(ying)(ying)始知行(xing)乞(qi)(qi)者(zhe)為(wei)張(zhang)(zhang)靈(ling)(ling)(ling)。嘆曰:“此(ci)乃(nai)真風流才(cai)(cai)子(zi)也(ye)!”取圖(tu)(tu)(tu)藏笥中。翁(weng)擬以(yi)明日(ri)(ri)(ri)往謁(ye)唐(tang)(tang)、祝二(er)君(jun),因(yin)訪靈(ling)(ling)(ling)。忽抱疴數日(ri)(ri)(ri)不(bu)(bu)起(qi),為(wei)榜人所促,遽返(fan)豫章(zhang)。
靈(ling)既(ji)于(yu)舟(zhou)次見(jian)(jian)瑩,以(yi)(yi)為(wei)絕代佳人(ren),也(ye)難再(zai)得(de)。遂(sui)日走虎丘偵之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),久之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)查然。屬(shu)靳人(ren)方志(zhi)(zhi)來校士(shi)。志(zhi)(zhi)既(ji)深惡(e)古(gu)文(wen)詞,而又聞靈(ling)跅弛不(bu)羈,竟(jing)褫(chi)(chi)其(qi)諸(zhu)生(sheng)。靈(ling)聞乃大喜曰:“吾(wu)正苦(ku)章(zhang)縫束縛,今幸(xing)免矣!顧一褫(chi)(chi),何慮再(zai)褫(chi)(chi);且彼(bi)能(neng)褫(chi)(chi)吾(wu)諸(zhu)生(sheng)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)名(ming),亦(yi)能(neng)褫(chi)(chi)吾(wu)才子之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)名(ming)乎?”遂(sui)往(wang)過六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)家,見(jian)(jian)車騎填(tian)門,胥尉盈座。則(ze)江右寧藩宸濠(hao)遣使來迎者(zhe)(zhe)也(ye)。六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)擬赴其(qi)招。靈(ling)曰:“甚善!吾(wu)正有厚(hou)望于(yu)君。吾(wu)曩(nang)者(zhe)(zhe)虎莊所遇之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)佳人(ren),即豫章(zhang)人(ren)也(ye)。乞君為(wei)我多方訪之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),冀得(de)當以(yi)(yi)報我,此(ci)(ci)開天(tian)辟地(di)第一吃緊事也(ye)。幸(xing)無忽忘。”六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)曰:“諾。”即偕藩使過豫章(zhang)。時,宸濠(hao)久蓄(xu)異謀,其(qi)招致六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru),一博好賢虛(xu)譽;一慕六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)詩(shi)畫兼扶(fu),欲倩其(qi)作《十美(mei)圖(tu)(tu)》,獻(xian)(xian)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)九(jiu)(jiu)重。其(qi)時宮中已覓得(de)九(jiu)(jiu)人(ren),尚虛(xu)其(qi)一。六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)請(qing)先寫之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。遂(sui)為(wei)寫九(jiu)(jiu)美(mei),而各綴七絕一章(zhang)于(yu)后。九(jiu)(jiu)美(mei)者(zhe)(zhe):廣陵(ling)湯之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)靄字雨君,善畫;姑蘇木桂文(wen)舟(zhou),善琴(qin);嘉禾(he)朱嘉淑文(wen)孺,善書;金陵(ling)錢韶鳳生(sheng),善歌;江陵(ling)熊御小馮(feng),善舞;荊溪杜若芳洲,善箏;洛陽花(hua)尊朱芳,善等;錢唐柳春陽絮才,善瑟(se);公安薛幼端端清,善簫也(ye)。圖(tu)(tu)詠(yong)既(ji)成(cheng),進(jin)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)濠(hao),濠(hao)大悅。乃盛設(she)特宴(yan)六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru),而別(bie)一殿僚季生(sheng)副之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。季生(sheng)者(zhe)(zhe),憸(xian)人(ren)也(ye)。酒(jiu)次,請(qing)觀九(jiu)(jiu)美(mei)圖(tu)(tu)。因進(jin)曰:“十美(mei)欠一,殊屬(shu)缺陷(xian)。某(mou)愿舉一人(ren)以(yi)(yi)充其(qi)數,詰朝請(qing)持圖(tu)(tu)來獻(xian)(xian)。”比持圖(tu)(tu)以(yi)(yi)獻(xian)(xian),即崔瑩也(ye)。濠(hao)見(jian)(jian)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)曰:“此(ci)(ci)真國色矣!”即屬(shu)季生(sheng)往(wang)說之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。
先是,崔翁家居時(shi),瑩(ying)才名(ming)噪甚(shen),求姻(yin)者踵至,翁度(du)非(fei)瑩(ying)匹,悉拒不(bu)納。既從虎丘得張靈,遂雅屬意(yi)靈,不(bu)意(yi)疾作(zuo)遽歸。思(si)夏往吳中,托(tuo)六如主其(qi)事。適(shi)季(ji)生(sheng)(sheng)旋里(li)喪(sang)耦,熟聞瑩(ying)名(ming),預遣女畫師潛繪其(qi)容,而求姻(yin)于(yu)翁。翁謀諸(zhu)瑩(ying),瑩(ying)固不(bu)許。于(yu)是,季(ji)生(sheng)(sheng)銜之,因假手(shou)于(yu)濠,以(yi)泄私(si)忿。時(shi)濠威(wei)殊張甚(shen),翁再(zai)三力辭(ci),不(bu)得。瑩(ying)窘(jiong)激欲自(zi)裁,翁復(fu)多方護之。瑩(ying)嘆曰:“命也,已(yi)矣!夫復(fu)何言!”乃取笥(si)中《行乞圖》自(zi)題詩其(qi)上(shang)云(yun):
才子(zi)風流第一人,愿隨行乞樂清貧。入宮祇恐(kong)無紅葉,臨別題詩(shi)當會(hui)真(zhen)。
舉以授翁(weng)曰:“愿持此(ci)復張郎,俾(bi)知(zhi)世間(jian)有情癡女(nv)子如崔(cui)素瓊者(zhe),亦(yi)不(bu)虛其(qi)為(wei)(wei)一(yi)生才子也!”遂慟哭入(ru)宮(gong)(gong)。濠(hao)得(de)之(zhi)喜(xi)甚,復倩六(liu)如圖(tu)(tu)(tu)詠,以為(wei)(wei)十美之(zhi)冠。而六(liu)如先(xian)已取季生所獻(xian)者(zhe),摹(mo)得(de)一(yi)紙藏(zang)之(zhi)。瑩(ying)既(ji)知(zhi)六(liu)如在宮(gong)(gong)中(zhong),乘間(jian)密致一(yi)緘,以述己意(yi)。六(liu)如得(de)緘,乃(nai)大驚惋,始知(zhi)此(ci)女(nv)即(ji)靈(ling)所托訪(fang)者(zhe)。“今(jin)事(shi)既(ji)不(bu)諧,復為(wei)(wei)繪圖(tu)(tu)(tu)進獻(xian),豈非(fei)千古罪人!將來何面目見良(liang)友!”因急(ji)詣崔(cui)翁(weng),索得(de)《行乞圖(tu)(tu)(tu)》返(fan)宮(gong)(gong),將相機維挽(wan)。不(bu)意(yi)十美已即(ji)日就(jiu)道,六(liu)如悔恨無已。又見濠(hao)逆跡漸著(zhu),急(ji)欲(yu)辭(ci)歸,苦為(wei)(wei)濠(hao)羈縻。乃(nai)發狂,號呼(hu)顛擲(zhi),溲(sou)穢狼藉。濠(hao)久之(zhi)不(bu)能(neng)堪,仍遣(qian)使送(song)歸,杜門月余乃(nai)起(qi)。過(guo)張靈(ling)時(shi),靈(ling)已頹(tui)然臥(wo)病矣。
蓋(gai)靈(ling)自(zi)別(bie)六(liu)如(ru)后(hou),邑邑亡憀,日(ri)縱酒狂呼(hu),或歌或哭(ku)。一(yi)日(ri)中秋,獨走虎丘千人(ren)(ren)(ren)石畔,見(jian)優伶演(yan)(yan)劇,靈(ling)佇視良久,忽大(da)(da)叫曰:“爾等所(suo)演(yan)(yan)不(bu)佳(jia),待吾演(yan)(yan)王子晉吹笙跨(kua)鶴(he)(he)!”遂(sui)控一(yi)童(tong)子于(yu)地(di)而跨(kua)其(qi)背,攫伶人(ren)(ren)(ren)笙吹之(zhi),命童(tong)子作鶴(he)(he)飛(fei);捶之(zhi)不(bu)起,童(tong)子怒,掀(xian)靈(ling)于(yu)地(di)。靈(ling)起曰:“鶴(he)(he)不(bu)肯飛(fei),吾今既(ji)不(bu)得為(wei)(wei)天仙,惟(wei)當作水中仙耳!”遂(sui)躍入劍池(chi)中。眾急(ji)救之(zhi)出(chu),則面額俱(ju)損,且傷股不(bu)能行(xing),人(ren)(ren)(ren)送其(qi)歸(gui)家。自(zi)此委頓枕席,日(ri)日(ri)在(zai)醉夢中。至是(shi),忽聞六(liu)如(ru)至,乃(nai)從榻間(jian)躍起,急(ji)叩豫(yu)章佳(jia)人(ren)(ren)(ren)狀。六(liu)如(ru)出(chu)所(suo)摹(mo)素瓊圖(tu)示(shi)之(zhi)。靈(ling)一(yi)見(jian),詫為(wei)(wei)天人(ren)(ren)(ren),急(ji)捧置案問(wen),頂(ding)禮(li)跪拜(bai)(bai),自(zi)陳“才子張(zhang)(zhang)靈(ling)拜(bai)(bai)謁(ye)”云云。已,聞瑩已入宮,乃(nai)撫圖(tu)痛哭(ku)。六(liu)如(ru)復(fu)出(chu)瑩所(suo)題《行(xing)乞圖(tu)》示(shi)之(zhi)。靈(ling)讀罷,益痛哭(ku)。大(da)(da)呼(hu):“佳(jia)人(ren)(ren)(ren)崔(cui)素瓊!”隨蹄地(di)嘔血不(bu)止(zhi)。家人(ren)(ren)(ren)擁至榻間(jian),病愈(yu)甚。三日(ri)后(hou),邀六(liu)如(ru)與訣曰:“已矣!唐君!吾今真死(si)(si)矣!死(si)(si)后(hou),乞以此圖(tu)殉(xun)葬。”索(suo)筆書片紙云:“張(zhang)(zhang)靈(ling),字夢晉,風(feng)流放誕人(ren)(ren)(ren)也(ye),以情(qing)死(si)(si)。”遂(sui)擲(zhi)筆而逝。六(liu)如(ru)哭(ku)之(zhi)慟,乃(nai)葬靈(ling)于(yu)玄(xuan)墓山之(zhi)麓(lu),而以圖(tu)殉(xun)焉。檢其(qi)生平(ping)文章,先已自(zi)焚,惟(wei)收(shou)其(qi)詩(shi)草及《行(xing)乞圖(tu)》以歸(gui)。
時,瑩(ying)(ying)已(yi)(yi)率十美抵都。因(yin)駕幸榆林,久之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)未得進御。而宸濠已(yi)(yi)舉兵(bing)反,為王守仁所敗,旋即就擒。駕還時,以十美為逆藩所獻,悉遣歸(gui)母(mu)家(jia),聽其(qi)適人。于(yu)是瑩(ying)(ying)仍得返(fan)豫章。值崔(cui)翁已(yi)(yi)捐(juan)館舍(she),有老仆崔(cui)恩(en)(en)殯之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。瑩(ying)(ying)哀(ai)(ai)痛至(zhi)甚。然煢孑無依,葬(zang)父已(yi)(yi)畢,遂挈裝(zhuang)徑(jing)抵吳門,命崔(cui)恩(en)(en)邀(yao)六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)相見于(yu)舟次。瑩(ying)(ying)首訊(xun)張(zhang)(zhang)靈(ling)(ling)近狀,六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)愴然收涕(ti)曰:“辱姊鍾(zhong)情(qing)遠顧,奈此君(jun)福薄,今(jin)已(yi)(yi)為情(qing)鬼矣(yi)!”瑩(ying)(ying)聞(wen)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),嗚(wu)咽失(shi)聲。詢知(zhi)(zhi)靈(ling)(ling)葬(zang)于(yu)玄墓(mu),約明(ming)(ming)日同(tong)(tong)往祭(ji)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)明(ming)(ming)日果攜靈(ling)(ling)詩(shi)草(cao)及《行(xing)藝圖(tu)(tu)》至(zhi),與瑩(ying)(ying)各橈舟抵靈(ling)(ling)墓(mu)所,瑩(ying)(ying)衣輒酹,伏地拜(bai)哭(ku)甚哀(ai)(ai)。已(yi)(yi)乃懸《行(xing)乞圖(tu)(tu)》于(yu)墓(mu)前(qian),陳設(she)祭(ji)儀,坐(zuo)石(shi)臺上,徐取靈(ling)(ling)詩(shi)草(cao)讀之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。每讀一章,輒酹酒一卮,大(da)(da)呼(hu):“張(zhang)(zhang)靈(ling)(ling)才(cai)子(zi)!”一呼(hu)一哭(ku),哭(ku)罷又讀,往復不(bu)休。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)不(bu)忍聞(wen),掩淚(lei)歸(gui)舟。而崔(cui)恩(en)(en)佇立已(yi)(yi)久,勸慰(wei)無從(cong),亦(yi)起去,徘徊丘垅間。及返(fan),則(ze)瑩(ying)(ying)已(yi)(yi)自縊于(yu)臺畔。恩(en)(en)大(da)(da)驚,走告六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)趁視(shi),見瑩(ying)(ying)已(yi)(yi)死。嘆息(xi)跪拜(bai)曰:“大(da)(da)難(nan)!大(da)(da)難(nan)!我唐寅今(jin)日得見奇人奇事(shi)矣(yi)!”遂具棺(guan)衾,將易服斂之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)。而瑩(ying)(ying)通體衫(shan)襦皆細綴(zhui)嚴密無少(shao)隙,知(zhi)(zhi)其(qi)矢(shi)死已(yi)(yi)久。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)因(yin)取詩(shi)草(cao)及《行(xing)乞圖(tu)(tu)》,并置(zhi)(zhi)棺(guan)中為殉(xun),啟靈(ling)(ling)擴與瑩(ying)(ying)同(tong)(tong)穴(xue)。而植碑題其(qi)上云:“明(ming)(ming)才(cai)子(zi)張(zhang)(zhang)夢晉、佳(jia)人崔(cui)素瓊(qiong)合(he)葬(zang)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)墓(mu)”。時,傾城士人哄傳感嘆,無貴(gui)賤賢愚(yu),爭來吊(diao)誄,絡繹喧豗,云蒸雨(yu)集,哀(ai)(ai)聲動地,殆莫(mo)知(zhi)(zhi)其(qi)由也。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)既(ji)合(he)葬(zang)靈(ling)(ling)、瑩(ying)(ying),檢瑩(ying)(ying)所遺(yi)囊中裝(zhuang),為置(zhi)(zhi)墓(mu)田,營丙舍(she),命崔(cui)恩(en)(en)居(ju)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi),以供(gong)春(chun)秋(qiu)奠掃之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)役。嗚(wu)呼(hu)!才(cai)子(zi)佳(jia)人,一旦(dan)至(zhi)此。庶乎靈(ling)(ling)、瑩(ying)(ying)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)事(shi)畢,而六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)(ru)之(zhi)(zhi)(zhi)事(shi)亦(yi)畢矣(yi)。
而六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)于(yu)明年仲(zhong)春,躬(gong)詣墓(mu)所拜(bai)奠(dian)。夜(ye)宿丙(bing)舍旁,輾轉(zhuan)不(bu)寐(mei),啟窗縱目,則(ze)萬樹梅(mei)花(hua),一(yi)(yi)(yi)天明月(yue)(yue)(yue),不(bu)知(zhi)身(shen)在人(ren)(ren)世(shi)。六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)悵然(ran)(ran)嘆曰(yue):“夢晉(jin)一(yi)(yi)(yi)生狂放、淪(lun)落不(bu)偶(ou),今得(de)與(yu)崔美(mei)(mei)人(ren)(ren)合葬(zang)此(ci)(ci)間,消受香光,亦差可不(bu)負(fu)矣!但將未(wei)知(zhi)誰葬(zang)我唐寅(yin)耳!”不(bu)覺(jue)欷歔(xu)泣(qi)下。忽遙聞有(you)人(ren)(ren)朗吟(yin)(yin)云:“花(hua)滿山中高士臥,月(yue)(yue)(yue)明林(lin)下美(mei)(mei)人(ren)(ren)來(lai)(lai)。”六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)急起入林(lin)迎揖,則(ze)張靈也(ye)(ye)。六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)訝曰(yue):“君死(si)已久,安(an)(an)得(de)來(lai)(lai)此(ci)(ci)吟(yin)(yin)高季迪詩(shi)?”靈笑曰(yue):“君以(yi)為(wei)我真(zhen)死(si)耶?死(si)者形,不(bu)死(si)者性,吾既為(wei)一(yi)(yi)(yi)世(shi)才子(zi),死(si)后豈若他人(ren)(ren)泯沒耶?今乘此(ci)(ci)花(hua)滿山中,高士偃臥時(shi)來(lai)(lai)造訪耳。”復(fu)舉手前(qian)指曰(yue):“此(ci)(ci)非‘月(yue)(yue)(yue)明林(lin)下美(mei)(mei)人(ren)(ren)來(lai)(lai)’乎(hu)?”六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)回顧(gu),有(you)美(mei)(mei)人(ren)(ren)姍姍來(lai)(lai)前(qian),則(ze)崔瑩(ying)也(ye)(ye)。于(yu)是,兩人(ren)(ren)攜手整襟(jin),向(xiang)六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)拜(bai)謝(xie)合葬(zang)之(zhi)(zhi)德(de)。六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)方扶掖之(zhi)(zhi),忽又有(you)人(ren)(ren)大(da)呼曰(yue):“我高季迪梅(mei)花(hua)詩(shi),乃千古絕(jue)唱,何物張靈,妄稱才子(zi),改(gai)‘雪’為(wei)‘花(hua)’,定須飽(bao)我老拳!”六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)轉(zhuan)瞬之(zhi)(zhi)間,靈、瑩(ying)俱失所在。其(qi)人(ren)(ren)直(zhi)前(qian)呼曰(yue):“當(dang)捶此(ci)(ci)改(gai)詩(shi)之(zhi)(zhi)賊才子(zi)!”捽六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)欲毆(ou)之(zhi)(zhi),六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)驚寤。則(ze)半窗明月(yue)(yue)(yue),闃其(qi)無人(ren)(ren)。六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)憮(wu)然(ran)(ran),始(shi)信真(zhen)才子(zi)與(yu)真(zhen)佳人(ren)(ren),蓋死(si)而不(bu)死(si)也(ye)(ye)。因匡坐(zuo)梅(mei)窗下,作《張靈崔瑩(ying)合傳》以(yi)紀其(qi)事。然(ran)(ran)今日(ri)《六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)集》中,固(gu)未(wei)嘗見此(ci)(ci)傳也(ye)(ye)。余(yu)又安(an)(an)得(de)而不(bu)亟補之(zhi)(zhi)哉(zai)。
畸史氏曰:嗟乎!蓋吾閱(yue)《十美圖編》,而(er)(er)后(hou)知(zhi)世間(jian)真(zhen)有(you)才(cai)子(zi)佳(jia)(jia)人(ren)也(ye)(ye)。從(cong)(cong)來稗官家言(yan),大抵(di)真(zhen)贗參半(ban)。若(ruo)(ruo)(ruo)夢晉之名(ming),既章章于《六如集》中(zhong),但素(su)瓊(qiong)之事,無從(cong)(cong)考證。雖然,有(you)其(qi)事何(he)必無其(qi)人(ren),且(qie)安(an)知(zhi)非作者(zhe)有(you)為(wei)而(er)(er)發乎?獨怪夢晉之才(cai),目空千古,而(er)(er)其(qi)尚論(lun)才(cai)子(zi)佳(jia)(jia)人(ren),則(ze)專以(yi)太(tai)白(bai)與鶯鶯當之。夫太(tai)白(bai)誠天上(shang)仙才(cai),不可(ke)有(you)二。若(ruo)(ruo)(ruo)千古佳(jia)(jia)人(ren),自當以(yi)文君為(wei)第一。而(er)(er)夢晉顧舍(she)彼取(qu)此(ci),厥(jue)后(hou),果遇素(su)瓊(qiong),毋乃思崔得崔,適(shi)符其(qi)讖(chen)耶?至(zhi)于張(zhang)以(yi)情死(si),崔以(yi)情殉,初(chu)非有(you)一詞半(ban)縷之成約(yue),而(er)(er)慷慨從(cong)(cong)容,等泰山于鴻毛,徒(tu)以(yi)才(cai)色相憐之故。推此(ci)志也(ye)(ye),凜凜生(sheng)氣,日(ri)月爭光,又遠出(chu)琴心犢鼻(bi)之上(shang)矣。而(er)(er)或者(zhe)猶追恨于夢晉之早死(si)。以(yi)為(wei)夢晉若(ruo)(ruo)(ruo)不死(si),則(ze)素(su)瓊(qiong)遣(qian)歸(gui)之日(ri),正崔張(zhang)好(hao)合之年,后(hou)此(ci)或白(bai)頭(tou)唱和,蘭玉(yu)盈階,未可(ke)知(zhi)也(ye)(ye)。噫!此(ci)固庸(yong)庸(yong)蚩蚩者(zhe)之厚福(fu)也(ye)(ye),何(he)有(you)于才(cai)子(zi)佳(jia)(jia)人(ren)哉!
張靈(ling)(ling)(ling)本(ben)窶人子,力作自給(gei),而靈(ling)(ling)(ling)生乃有(you)(you)爽氣,嗜(shi)酒醉(zui)(zui)則(ze)作狂曰(yue)(yue):“日休(xiu),小豎子耳,尚(shang)(shang)能稱醉(zui)(zui)士(shi)(shi),我(wo)獨不能醉(zui)(zui)耶!”所(suo)與(yu)游者(zhe)(zhe)(zhe),吳趨(qu)、唐寅最(zui)善,寅嘗擬(ni)游武丘,召(zhao)靈(ling)(ling)(ling)與(yu)俱往,促之,尚(shang)(shang)臥(wo),寅抵寢所(suo)呼(hu)曰(yue)(yue):“日高舂(chong)矣,睡何(he)為(wei)(wei)?”靈(ling)(ling)(ling)覺,怒曰(yue)(yue):“今者(zhe)(zhe)(zhe)無酒,雅懷殊(shu)不啟。方入醉(zui)(zui)鄉,又為(wei)(wei)相攪。”寅曰(yue)(yue):“所(suo)以(yi)來,固欲邀子。”靈(ling)(ling)(ling)喜,加衣(yi)起,遂與(yu)寅上(shang)舟扣舷(xian)痛飲,作《野人歌》。會數賈(jia)飲于可中亭,且(qie)詠詩,因更衣(yi)為(wei)(wei)丐者(zhe)(zhe)(zhe)上(shang),賈(jia)與(yu)食啖(dan)之,靈(ling)(ling)(ling)請續和。時賈(jia)所(suo)為(wei)(wei)詩有(you)(you)“蒼(cang)官(guan)”、“青士(shi)(shi)”、“撲握(wo)”,“伊(yi)尼(ni)”諸詞,因以(yi)問靈(ling)(ling)(ling),靈(ling)(ling)(ling)曰(yue)(yue):“蒼(cang)官(guan),松也(ye)(ye);青士(shi)(shi),竹也(ye)(ye);撲握(wo),免(mian)也(ye)(ye);伊(yi)尼(ni),鹿(lu)也(ye)(ye)。”賈(jia)始駭令賡,靈(ling)(ling)(ling)即揮毫不已,凡(fan)百(bai)絕。抵舟,命童子易(yi)維蘿陰下令跡絕。賈(jia)使(shi)人察(cha)之,不見也(ye)(ye)。皆以(yi)為(wei)(wei)神仙。賈(jia)去(qu),復上(shang)亭,朱(zhu)衣(yi)金目(mu),作胡人舞形狀(zhuang),殊(shu)絕。
祝允明嘗(chang)偕陸濟(ji)民(min)、張夢晉、韓壽(shou)椿(chun)登(deng)虎丘浮屠。登(deng)至絕頂,但見八荒洞然,萬籟齊發,飲酒樂甚。壽(shou)椿(chun)出紙筆賦(fu)詩(shi)(shi)以紀其游,允明詩(shi)(shi)先成(cheng),云(yun):“草木衣裳(shang)下,煙霞掌握中(zhong)。偶然飛咳(ke)唾,珠玉滿(man)天(tian)(tian)風。”濟(ji)民(min)云(yun):“極目(mu)飛鴻小,致身(shen)云(yun)路中(zhong)。詩(shi)(shi)人(ren)少(shao)知(zhi)(zhi)己,發付與東風。”夢晉云(yun):“慮遣塵寰外(wai),天(tian)(tian)歸(gui)眼界中(zhong)。新詩(shi)(shi)三百(bai)首,句句答松(song)風。”壽(shou)椿(chun)云(yun):“詩(shi)(shi)寄千峰抄,春橫一鏡中(zhong)。攜壺兼荷鐘,不減(jian)晉人(ren)風。”詩(shi)(shi)成(cheng)閣筆,天(tian)(tian)風颯然飄其詩(shi)(shi)草,盤(pan)旋直上太(tai)虛,如神物掀舞(wu)。將擲地,又為(wei)蒼鷹所舉,竟不知(zhi)(zhi)其所止(zhi)。遂名為(wei)“飛詩(shi)(shi)會(hui)。”
初(chu),張靈(ling)與唐寅(yin)俱為郡(jun)學生,博古(gu)相尚(shang)。適鄞(yin)人方(fang)志來督學,惡古(gu)文詞,察知(zhi)寅(yin),欲(yu)中(zhong)傷之(zhi)(zhi),靈(ling)挹(yi)郁不(bu)(bu)自(zi)遣。寅(yin)曰:“子(zi)未為所知(zhi),何愁之(zhi)(zhi)甚?”靈(ling)曰:“獨不(bu)(bu)聞龍王欲(yu)斬有尾族,蝦蟆(ma)亦哭乎?”后(hou)靈(ling)果為所斥(chi)罷,或謂之(zhi)(zhi)曰:“以子(zi)之(zhi)(zhi)才(cai),顧不(bu)(bu)得(de)激致青云,乃重遭顯棄,豈(qi)無(wu)雉經之(zhi)(zhi)用,而何以立于世?”靈(ling)曰:“昔謝豹化為蟲,行(xing)地中(zhong),以足覆面作忍恥狀。吏靈(ling)用子(zi)言,亦當(dang)如(ru)是矣。縱不(bu)(bu)爾,亦安得(de)更銜鑿落耶!”靈(ling)臨(lin)終前三(san)日作詩云:“一枚蟬蛻榻當(dang)中(zhong),命也難辭付大(da)空。垂(chui)死(si)尚(shang)思玄墓麓,滿山(shan)寒雪一林(lin)松。”后(hou)一日又作詩云:“彷佛飛魂亂哭聲,多(duo)情于此轉多(duo)情。欲(yu)將眾淚澆心火,何日張家再托生?”聞者莫不(bu)(bu)悲(bei)之(zhi)(zhi)。
