弘治十(shi)三(san)年(nian)(1500)嘗為唐寅作《荷(he)池消(xiao)夏圖》圖錄(lu)于《藝林月刊》八十(shi)四期(qi)。傳世作品有《招仙圖》卷、弘治十(shi)四年(nian)(1501)作《秋林高(gao)士圖》軸(有文(wen)徵(zhi)明楷書(shu)題跋(ba))現藏(zang)故宮(gong)博(bo)(bo)物(wu)院;《漁樂圖》軸藏(zang)臺北故宮(gong)博(bo)(bo)物(wu)院;弘治十(shi)七年(nian)(1504)作《織女圖》軸藏(zang)上海博(bo)(bo)物(wu)館。
其生(sheng)平按(an)《吳越(yue)所見書畫(hua)錄》載:“夢晉與(yu)唐(tang)六如、祝希哲同時(shi)友善,畫(hua)更高于六如,死(si)亦更早。”言張靈(ling)死(si)在唐(tang)寅(1470—1523)之(zhi)(zhi)前。徐(xu)(xu)(xu)禎(zhen)卿《新倩籍》中有記張靈(ling)詩文(略),極盡悲悼哀憫之(zhi)(zhi)情(qing)。按(an)徐(xu)(xu)(xu)禎(zhen)卿卒于1511年(nian),時(shi)唐(tang)寅四十二(er)歲,而(er)張靈(ling)必卒于徐(xu)(xu)(xu)之(zhi)(zhi)前,由此推(tui)知(zhi)張靈(ling)生(sheng)于成化,約(yue)卒于正德初,年(nian)四十左右。

余少時(shi),閱唐解元《六如集》有(you)云:“六如嘗與祝枝山、張夢(meng)晉(jin),大雪(xue)中效乞兒唱(chang)《蓮(lian)花》,得錢沽酒,痛飲野寺中。曰(yue):‘此(ci)樂,惜不(bu)令太(tai)白見之(zhi)。’”心(xin)竊疑(yi)焉,然不(bu)知夢(meng)晉(jin)為何許人也。頃閱稗乘(cheng)中,有(you)一編(bian)曰(yue)《十(shi)美圖》,乃詳載張夢(meng)晉(jin)、崔素瓊(qiong)事。不(bu)覺驚喜叫跳,已而潸(shan)然雨泣。此(ci)真古(gu)今來才子(zi)佳人之(zhi)軼事也,不(bu)可以(yi)不(bu)傳,遂為之(zhi)傳。
張夢晉(jin),名靈(ling),蓋正德時吳縣(xian)人(ren)(ren)(ren)也。生而姿容俊爽(shuang),才(cai)(cai)調無(wu)雙,工詩善畫,性風流豪放(fang),不(bu)(bu)可(ke)一(yi)世。家故赤(chi)貧(pin),而靈(ling)獨(du)蚤慧(hui)。當舞(wu)勺時,父命靈(ling)出(chu)應童子(zi)試(shi),輒以冠軍補(bu)弟子(zi)員。靈(ling)心(xin)顧不(bu)(bu)樂,以為才(cai)(cai)人(ren)(ren)(ren)何苦為章(zhang)縫束縛,遂絕(jue)意不(bu)(bu)欲復應試(shi)。日縱(zong)酒高吟,不(bu)(bu)肯妄交人(ren)(ren)(ren),人(ren)(ren)(ren)亦不(bu)(bu)敢輕交與(yu)。惟(wei)與(yu)唐解元六(liu)如(ru)作忘年友(you)。靈(ling)既氏,不(bu)(bu)娶。六(liu)如(ru)試(shi)叩之。靈(ling)笑(xiao)曰(yue):“君(jun)豈有中意人(ren)(ren)(ren)足當吾(wu)(wu)偶者(zhe)耶?”六(liu)如(ru)曰(yue):“無(wu)之。但自古才(cai)(cai)子(zi)宜配佳人(ren)(ren)(ren),吾(wu)(wu)聊以此(ci)探君(jun)耳(er)(er)。”靈(ling)曰(yue):“固然,今(jin)豈有其人(ren)(ren)(ren)哉?求(qiu)之數千年中,可(ke)當才(cai)(cai)子(zi)佳人(ren)(ren)(ren)者(zhe),惟(wei)李(li)太(tai)白與(yu)崔鶯鶯耳(er)(er)。吾(wu)(wu)唯不(bu)(bu)才(cai)(cai),然自謫仙而外,似不(bu)(bu)敢多讓(rang)。若(ruo)雙文(wen),惜下(xia)嫁鄭(zheng)恒,正未知果識張君(jun)瑞否?”六(liu)如(ru)曰(yue):“謹受教。吾(wu)(wu)自今(jin)請為君(jun)訪之,期得雙文(wen)以報(bao)命,可(ke)乎?”遂大笑(xiao)別去。
一日,靈(ling)(ling)獨坐讀(du)《劉(liu)伶傳》,命童子進酒(jiu)(jiu)(jiu),屢讀(du)屢叫絕,輒拍案浮(fu)一大(da)白。久(jiu)之,童子跪進曰(yue):“酒(jiu)(jiu)(jiu)罄(qing)矣。今日唐解元與祝(zhu)京兆(zhao)宴集(ji)虎丘(qiu),公何(he)不(bu)挾(xie)此編一往索醉(zui)耶?”靈(ling)(ling)大(da)喜(xi),即行(xing)。然不(bu)欲為(wei)不(bu)速客,乃屏棄衣冠(guan),科跣(xian)雙髻,衣鶉結,左持(chi)《劉(liu)伶傳》,右持(chi)木杖,謳吟道情詞,行(xing)乞而前。抵虎丘(qiu),見(jian)貴游蟻聚,綺席喧(xuan)闐(tian)。靈(ling)(ling)每過一處,輒執(zhi)書(shu)向客曰(yue):“劉(liu)伶告飲!”客見(jian)其美丈夫,不(bu)類丐者(zhe),競以酒(jiu)(jiu)(jiu)饌(zhuan)貽之。有數賈人(ren)(ren),方酌酒(jiu)(jiu)(jiu)賦(fu)詩(shi),靈(ling)(ling)至前,請屬和。賈人(ren)(ren)笑(xiao)之。其詩(shi)中(zhong)有蒼(cang)官、青士、撲握、伊尼四事,因指以問靈(ling)(ling)。靈(ling)(ling)曰(yue):“松(song)竹兔鹿,誰不(bu)知耶?”賈人(ren)(ren)始駭。令(ling)康詩(shi),靈(ling)(ling)即立揮百絕而去。遙見(jian)六如及祝(zhu)京兆(zhao)枝山數輩(bei),共集(ji)可中(zhong)亭。亦趨前執(zhi)書(shu)告飲。六如早(zao)已知為(wei)靈(ling)(ling),見(jian)其佯(yang)狂游戲,戒座客佯(yang)為(wei)不(bu)識者(zhe),以觀之。語(yu)靈(ling)(ling)曰(yue):“爾丐子持(chi)書(shu)行(xing)乞,想能賦(fu)詩(shi)。試題(ti)悟(wu)石(shi)軒一絕句,如佳,即賜(si)爾卮酒(jiu)(jiu)(jiu);否(fou)則,當叩爾脛(jing)。”靈(ling)(ling)曰(yue):“易耳(er)。”童子遂(sui)進毫(hao)楮(chu)。靈(ling)(ling)即書(shu)云:
勝跡(ji)天成說(shuo)虎丘,可(ke)中亭畔足酣游。
吟詩豈讓生公法,頑石如(ru)何不點頭。
遂(sui)并毫楮擲(zhi)地曰:“佳哉(zai)!擲(zhi)地金聲也(ye)。”六(liu)如(ru)覽之(zhi),大(da)笑。因(yin)(yin)呼與共(gong)飲。時,觀(guan)者(zhe)(zhe)(zhe)如(ru)堵,莫不(bu)相顧驚怪(guai)。靈(ling)既醉(zui),即(ji)(ji)拂(fu)衣(yi)起,仍執(zhi)書向(xiang)悟石軒(xuan)氏揖曰:“劉伶謝(xie)飲!”遂(sui)不(bu)別(bie)座客(ke)徑去(qu)。六(liu)如(ru)謂枝山曰:“今日我輩(bei)此(ci)(ci)舉,不(bu)減晉人風流(liu),宜寫(xie)一幀,為《張(zhang)靈(ling)行乞圖(tu)(tu)》,吾任(ren)繪事,而公(gong)題(ti)跋之(zhi),亦(yi)千秋佳話也(ye)。”即(ji)(ji)舐筆(bi)伸紙,俄(e)頃圖(tu)(tu)成(cheng)。技(ji)山題(ti)數語其后(hou)。座客(ke)爭傳玩嘆賞。忽(hu)(hu)一翁(weng)縞衣(yi)素(su)冠,前揖曰:“二(er)公(gong)即(ji)(ji)唐解元(yuan)、祝(zhu)京兆耶?仆企慕有年,何幸識(shi)韓!”六(liu)如(ru)遜謝(xie),徐叩之(zhi),則南昌(chang)明(ming)經崔文(wen)(wen)博以(yi)海虞廣文(wen)(wen)告(gao)歸(gui)者(zhe)(zhe)(zhe)也(ye)。翁(weng)得圖(tu)(tu)諦視,不(bu)忍(ren)釋手。因(yin)(yin)訊適行乞者(zhe)(zhe)(zhe)為誰。六(liu)如(ru)曰:“敝里才于張(zhang)靈(ling)也(ye)。”翁(weng)曰:“誠(cheng)然,此(ci)(ci)固非真(zhen)才子不(bu)能。”即(ji)(ji)向(xiang)六(liu)如(ru)乞此(ci)(ci)圖(tu)(tu)歸(gui)。將(jiang)返舟(zhou)(zhou),見舟(zhou)(zhou)已移泊他所,呼之(zhi)始至。蓋翁(weng)有女素(su)瓊者(zhe)(zhe)(zhe),名瑩,才貌(mao)俱絕世。以(yi)新喪母,隨(sui)翁(weng)扶櫬(chen)歸(gui)。先艤舟(zhou)(zhou)岸側時,聞(wen)人聲喧沸,乍啟檻(jian)窺之(zhi)。則見一丐者(zhe)(zhe)(zhe),狀(zhuang)貌(mao)殊不(bu)俗(su)。丐者(zhe)(zhe)(zhe)亦(yi)熟視檻(jian)中(zhong)(zhong),忽(hu)(hu)登舟(zhou)(zhou)長跪,自陳張(zhang)靈(ling)求見,屢發(fa)遣不(bu)去(qu)。良久,有一童子入舟(zhou)(zhou),強挽(wan)之(zhi),始去(qu)。故瑩命移舟(zhou)(zhou)避之(zhi)。崔翁(weng)乃(nai)(nai)出圖(tu)(tu)示瑩,且備述其故,瑩始知行乞者(zhe)(zhe)(zhe)為張(zhang)靈(ling)。嘆曰:“此(ci)(ci)乃(nai)(nai)真(zhen)風流(liu)才子也(ye)!”取圖(tu)(tu)藏笥中(zhong)(zhong)。翁(weng)擬(ni)以(yi)明(ming)日往謁(ye)唐、祝(zhu)二(er)君,因(yin)(yin)訪靈(ling)。忽(hu)(hu)抱(bao)疴數日不(bu)起,為榜人所促(cu),遽(ju)返豫章。
靈(ling)既于(yu)舟次見瑩,以為絕(jue)代佳(jia)人(ren),也(ye)難再得(de)。遂(sui)日走虎丘偵之(zhi)(zhi),久之(zhi)(zhi)查然。屬(shu)靳(jin)人(ren)方(fang)(fang)志(zhi)來(lai)校(xiao)士。志(zhi)既深惡古文詞,而又聞(wen)靈(ling)跅弛不羈(ji),竟褫(chi)其(qi)諸(zhu)生。靈(ling)聞(wen)乃大喜曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“吾(wu)正苦章(zhang)縫束縛,今幸(xing)免矣(yi)!顧(gu)一褫(chi),何慮(lv)再褫(chi);且彼能褫(chi)吾(wu)諸(zhu)生之(zhi)(zhi)名(ming),亦能褫(chi)吾(wu)才子(zi)之(zhi)(zhi)名(ming)乎?”遂(sui)往(wang)過六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)家,見車騎填(tian)門,胥(xu)尉盈座。則江(jiang)右(you)寧藩宸(chen)濠(hao)遣使(shi)來(lai)迎者(zhe)也(ye)。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)擬(ni)赴其(qi)招。靈(ling)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“甚善(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)!吾(wu)正有厚望于(yu)君(jun)。吾(wu)曩者(zhe)虎莊所遇(yu)之(zhi)(zhi)佳(jia)人(ren),即(ji)(ji)豫(yu)章(zhang)人(ren)也(ye)。乞君(jun)為我多(duo)方(fang)(fang)訪之(zhi)(zhi),冀得(de)當以報我,此開天辟地第一吃緊事(shi)也(ye)。幸(xing)無忽(hu)忘。”六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“諾。”即(ji)(ji)偕藩使(shi)過豫(yu)章(zhang)。時(shi)(shi),宸(chen)濠(hao)久蓄(xu)異(yi)謀,其(qi)招致六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru),一博好賢虛(xu)譽(yu);一慕(mu)六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)詩畫(hua)(hua)兼扶,欲倩其(qi)作(zuo)《十(shi)美(mei)圖(tu)》,獻之(zhi)(zhi)九(jiu)重。其(qi)時(shi)(shi)宮中已覓得(de)九(jiu)人(ren),尚虛(xu)其(qi)一。六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru)請先寫(xie)之(zhi)(zhi)。遂(sui)為寫(xie)九(jiu)美(mei),而各綴七絕(jue)一章(zhang)于(yu)后。九(jiu)美(mei)者(zhe):廣陵(ling)湯之(zhi)(zhi)靄字雨(yu)君(jun),善(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)畫(hua)(hua);姑蘇木桂文舟,善(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)琴;嘉禾朱嘉淑文孺,善(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)書;金陵(ling)錢韶(shao)鳳生,善(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)歌;江(jiang)陵(ling)熊御小馮(feng),善(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)舞(wu);荊溪杜若芳(fang)(fang)洲,善(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)箏;洛(luo)陽花尊朱芳(fang)(fang),善(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)等;錢唐柳春陽絮(xu)才,善(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)瑟;公安薛幼(you)端(duan)端(duan)清,善(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)簫也(ye)。圖(tu)詠既成,進之(zhi)(zhi)濠(hao),濠(hao)大悅。乃盛設特宴六(liu)(liu)(liu)如(ru)(ru),而別一殿僚季(ji)生副之(zhi)(zhi)。季(ji)生者(zhe),憸人(ren)也(ye)。酒次,請觀九(jiu)美(mei)圖(tu)。因(yin)進曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“十(shi)美(mei)欠一,殊屬(shu)缺陷。某愿舉一人(ren)以充其(qi)數,詰朝請持圖(tu)來(lai)獻。”比持圖(tu)以獻,即(ji)(ji)崔瑩也(ye)。濠(hao)見之(zhi)(zhi)曰(yue)(yue)(yue):“此真國色矣(yi)!”即(ji)(ji)屬(shu)季(ji)生往(wang)說之(zhi)(zhi)。
先是,崔翁家(jia)居(ju)時,瑩才名噪(zao)甚(shen),求(qiu)姻者踵(zhong)至,翁度非瑩匹,悉拒(ju)不(bu)納(na)。既從虎丘得張靈,遂雅(ya)屬意(yi)靈,不(bu)意(yi)疾作遽(ju)歸。思(si)夏往吳中(zhong),托六(liu)如(ru)主(zhu)其事。適季生旋里喪耦(ou),熟聞(wen)瑩名,預遣女畫師潛繪其容,而求(qiu)姻于(yu)(yu)翁。翁謀(mou)諸(zhu)瑩,瑩固不(bu)許。于(yu)(yu)是,季生銜之,因假手于(yu)(yu)濠,以泄私忿。時濠威(wei)殊(shu)張甚(shen),翁再三(san)力辭,不(bu)得。瑩窘(jiong)激欲自裁,翁復多(duo)方護之。瑩嘆曰:“命也(ye),已矣!夫復何言!”乃取笥(si)中(zhong)《行乞圖》自題詩其上云(yun):
才子(zi)風(feng)流第一人,愿隨行乞樂(le)清貧。入(ru)宮祇恐無紅葉,臨別題詩(shi)當會真。
舉以(yi)授翁曰:“愿(yuan)持此(ci)復(fu)張郎(lang),俾知世(shi)間有情癡女子(zi)如崔(cui)素瓊者,亦不(bu)虛其為(wei)一生才(cai)子(zi)也!”遂慟哭入宮。濠(hao)(hao)得(de)之喜甚,復(fu)倩六如圖(tu)詠,以(yi)為(wei)十美之冠。而六如先已取季(ji)生所(suo)獻者,摹得(de)一紙藏之。瑩既知六如在宮中,乘間密(mi)致一緘,以(yi)述己意。六如得(de)緘,乃大驚(jing)惋,始知此(ci)女即靈所(suo)托訪者。“今事既不(bu)諧(xie),復(fu)為(wei)繪圖(tu)進獻,豈(qi)非千(qian)古罪人!將來何(he)面目見良友(you)!”因(yin)急詣(yi)崔(cui)翁,索(suo)得(de)《行乞圖(tu)》返宮,將相機維挽。不(bu)意十美已即日就道,六如悔恨(hen)無已。又見濠(hao)(hao)逆跡漸著,急欲辭歸,苦為(wei)濠(hao)(hao)羈縻。乃發狂,號呼(hu)顛擲,溲穢狼藉。濠(hao)(hao)久之不(bu)能堪,仍遣使(shi)送歸,杜(du)門月(yue)余(yu)乃起。過張靈時,靈已頹(tui)然臥病矣。
蓋靈(ling)自別六如(ru)(ru)后(hou),邑邑亡憀,日縱酒狂呼,或歌(ge)或哭(ku)。一日中(zhong)(zhong)秋,獨走虎丘千(qian)人(ren)(ren)石畔(pan),見優伶(ling)演(yan)劇(ju),靈(ling)佇視良(liang)久,忽(hu)大叫(jiao)曰(yue):“爾等所(suo)演(yan)不佳(jia),待吾(wu)演(yan)王(wang)子晉吹笙(sheng)跨鶴(he)(he)!”遂控一童(tong)子于(yu)地(di)(di)而(er)跨其背,攫伶(ling)人(ren)(ren)笙(sheng)吹之(zhi)(zhi),命童(tong)子作(zuo)鶴(he)(he)飛;捶之(zhi)(zhi)不起,童(tong)子怒,掀靈(ling)于(yu)地(di)(di)。靈(ling)起曰(yue):“鶴(he)(he)不肯飛,吾(wu)今既不得為天(tian)仙,惟當作(zuo)水中(zhong)(zhong)仙耳!”遂躍入劍池(chi)中(zhong)(zhong)。眾急(ji)救(jiu)之(zhi)(zhi)出,則(ze)面額俱損,且傷股不能行,人(ren)(ren)送其歸(gui)家。自此委頓枕席,日日在(zai)醉(zui)夢中(zhong)(zhong)。至是,忽(hu)聞(wen)六如(ru)(ru)至,乃(nai)從榻間(jian)躍起,急(ji)叩豫章(zhang)(zhang)佳(jia)人(ren)(ren)狀。六如(ru)(ru)出所(suo)摹素(su)瓊(qiong)圖(tu)(tu)示之(zhi)(zhi)。靈(ling)一見,詫(cha)為天(tian)人(ren)(ren),急(ji)捧置案問,頂禮跪拜,自陳“才子張靈(ling)拜謁(ye)”云(yun)云(yun)。已(yi),聞(wen)瑩(ying)已(yi)入宮,乃(nai)撫圖(tu)(tu)痛哭(ku)。六如(ru)(ru)復出瑩(ying)所(suo)題(ti)《行乞圖(tu)(tu)》示之(zhi)(zhi)。靈(ling)讀罷,益痛哭(ku)。大呼:“佳(jia)人(ren)(ren)崔(cui)素(su)瓊(qiong)!”隨蹄地(di)(di)嘔(ou)血不止(zhi)。家人(ren)(ren)擁至榻間(jian),病愈甚。三日后(hou),邀六如(ru)(ru)與(yu)訣曰(yue):“已(yi)矣!唐君!吾(wu)今真死(si)矣!死(si)后(hou),乞以此圖(tu)(tu)殉葬。”索筆書片紙云(yun):“張靈(ling),字(zi)夢晉,風流放(fang)誕人(ren)(ren)也,以情死(si)。”遂擲筆而(er)逝。六如(ru)(ru)哭(ku)之(zhi)(zhi)慟,乃(nai)葬靈(ling)于(yu)玄(xuan)墓山(shan)之(zhi)(zhi)麓,而(er)以圖(tu)(tu)殉焉(yan)。檢其生(sheng)平文章(zhang)(zhang),先(xian)已(yi)自焚,惟收其詩草及《行乞圖(tu)(tu)》以歸(gui)。
時,瑩(ying)已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)率十美(mei)(mei)抵都。因駕幸榆林,久之(zhi)未(wei)得進御。而宸濠已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)舉兵反,為(wei)(wei)王守仁所(suo)敗(bai),旋即就擒。駕還時,以(yi)十美(mei)(mei)為(wei)(wei)逆藩所(suo)獻,悉遣歸母家,聽其(qi)(qi)適人。于是瑩(ying)仍得返(fan)豫章(zhang)。值崔翁已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)捐館舍,有老仆崔恩殯之(zhi)。瑩(ying)哀(ai)痛至(zhi)甚。然煢孑無依,葬(zang)(zang)父已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)畢(bi)(bi),遂(sui)挈裝徑抵吳(wu)門,命(ming)崔恩邀六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如相見(jian)(jian)于舟(zhou)(zhou)次。瑩(ying)首訊(xun)張靈(ling)(ling)近狀,六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如愴然收(shou)涕曰:“辱姊(zi)鍾情遠(yuan)顧,奈(nai)此君(jun)福薄,今已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)為(wei)(wei)情鬼矣!”瑩(ying)聞之(zhi),嗚咽(yan)失(shi)聲。詢知(zhi)(zhi)靈(ling)(ling)葬(zang)(zang)于玄墓,約明(ming)日同(tong)往祭(ji)之(zhi)。六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如明(ming)日果攜靈(ling)(ling)詩(shi)草及(ji)《行(xing)藝(yi)圖(tu)》至(zhi),與瑩(ying)各橈舟(zhou)(zhou)抵靈(ling)(ling)墓所(suo),瑩(ying)衣輒酹(lei),伏地拜(bai)哭甚哀(ai)。已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)乃(nai)懸《行(xing)乞(qi)圖(tu)》于墓前,陳(chen)設(she)祭(ji)儀,坐石臺上,徐取靈(ling)(ling)詩(shi)草讀之(zhi)。每讀一(yi)(yi)章(zhang),輒酹(lei)酒一(yi)(yi)卮,大(da)呼(hu):“張靈(ling)(ling)才(cai)子!”一(yi)(yi)呼(hu)一(yi)(yi)哭,哭罷又讀,往復(fu)不(bu)休。六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如不(bu)忍聞,掩淚(lei)歸舟(zhou)(zhou)。而崔恩佇(zhu)立已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)久,勸慰無從,亦(yi)起去,徘徊丘垅間。及(ji)返(fan),則瑩(ying)已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)自縊于臺畔(pan)。恩大(da)驚,走(zou)告六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如。六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如趁視,見(jian)(jian)瑩(ying)已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)死。嘆息(xi)跪拜(bai)曰:“大(da)難!大(da)難!我(wo)唐(tang)寅今日得見(jian)(jian)奇人奇事矣!”遂(sui)具棺衾,將易服斂之(zhi)。而瑩(ying)通體衫襦皆細綴(zhui)嚴(yan)密無少隙(xi),知(zhi)(zhi)其(qi)(qi)矢死已(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)久。六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如因取詩(shi)草及(ji)《行(xing)乞(qi)圖(tu)》,并置棺中(zhong)為(wei)(wei)殉,啟靈(ling)(ling)擴與瑩(ying)同(tong)穴。而植碑(bei)題其(qi)(qi)上云:“明(ming)才(cai)子張夢晉、佳人崔素瓊合葬(zang)(zang)之(zhi)墓”。時,傾城士人哄傳感嘆,無貴賤賢(xian)愚,爭來吊誄,絡繹喧豗,云蒸雨集(ji),哀(ai)聲動地,殆莫(mo)知(zhi)(zhi)其(qi)(qi)由也。六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如既合葬(zang)(zang)靈(ling)(ling)、瑩(ying),檢瑩(ying)所(suo)遺囊中(zhong)裝,為(wei)(wei)置墓田,營丙舍,命(ming)崔恩居之(zhi),以(yi)供春秋奠掃之(zhi)役。嗚呼(hu)!才(cai)子佳人,一(yi)(yi)旦至(zhi)此。庶乎(hu)靈(ling)(ling)、瑩(ying)之(zhi)事畢(bi)(bi),而六(liu)(liu)(liu)(liu)如之(zhi)事亦(yi)畢(bi)(bi)矣。
而六如(ru)于明年仲春,躬詣(yi)墓(mu)所拜(bai)奠。夜(ye)宿丙(bing)舍旁,輾轉不寐,啟(qi)窗縱目(mu),則(ze)(ze)萬(wan)樹梅花(hua),一天明月,不知身在人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)世(shi)。六如(ru)悵然嘆(tan)曰(yue):“夢晉一生狂(kuang)放、淪落不偶,今得與(yu)崔(cui)美人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)合(he)(he)葬(zang)此(ci)(ci)(ci)間(jian)(jian),消(xiao)受香光,亦(yi)差可不負(fu)矣!但將未知誰葬(zang)我(wo)(wo)唐寅耳!”不覺欷歔(xu)泣下(xia)。忽遙聞(wen)有人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)朗吟(yin)云(yun):“花(hua)滿山中高(gao)(gao)(gao)士(shi)臥,月明林下(xia)美人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)來。”六如(ru)急(ji)起入(ru)林迎揖(yi),則(ze)(ze)張靈(ling)(ling)(ling)也(ye)。六如(ru)訝曰(yue):“君(jun)死(si)(si)已久,安(an)得來此(ci)(ci)(ci)吟(yin)高(gao)(gao)(gao)季迪(di)(di)詩(shi)?”靈(ling)(ling)(ling)笑(xiao)曰(yue):“君(jun)以(yi)為(wei)我(wo)(wo)真死(si)(si)耶?死(si)(si)者形,不死(si)(si)者性,吾既為(wei)一世(shi)才子(zi),死(si)(si)后(hou)豈若他人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)泯沒耶?今乘此(ci)(ci)(ci)花(hua)滿山中,高(gao)(gao)(gao)士(shi)偃臥時來造訪耳。”復舉手前指(zhi)曰(yue):“此(ci)(ci)(ci)非‘月明林下(xia)美人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)來’乎?”六如(ru)回顧(gu),有美人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)姍(shan)姍(shan)來前,則(ze)(ze)崔(cui)瑩也(ye)。于是,兩人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)攜(xie)手整襟(jin),向(xiang)六如(ru)拜(bai)謝合(he)(he)葬(zang)之(zhi)(zhi)德。六如(ru)方扶(fu)掖(ye)之(zhi)(zhi),忽又有人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)大呼曰(yue):“我(wo)(wo)高(gao)(gao)(gao)季迪(di)(di)梅花(hua)詩(shi),乃(nai)千古絕唱,何物張靈(ling)(ling)(ling),妄(wang)稱才子(zi),改‘雪’為(wei)‘花(hua)’,定須飽我(wo)(wo)老拳(quan)!”六如(ru)轉瞬之(zhi)(zhi)間(jian)(jian),靈(ling)(ling)(ling)、瑩俱(ju)失所在。其(qi)人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)直前呼曰(yue):“當捶此(ci)(ci)(ci)改詩(shi)之(zhi)(zhi)賊才子(zi)!”捽六如(ru)欲毆之(zhi)(zhi),六如(ru)驚寤。則(ze)(ze)半窗明月,闃其(qi)無人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren)。六如(ru)憮(wu)然,始信真才子(zi)與(yu)真佳人(ren)(ren)(ren)(ren),蓋(gai)死(si)(si)而不死(si)(si)也(ye)。因匡坐梅窗下(xia),作《張靈(ling)(ling)(ling)崔(cui)瑩合(he)(he)傳》以(yi)紀其(qi)事。然今日(ri)《六如(ru)集》中,固未嘗見(jian)此(ci)(ci)(ci)傳也(ye)。余(yu)又安(an)得而不亟補(bu)之(zhi)(zhi)哉。
畸(ji)史氏曰:嗟乎!蓋吾閱《十(shi)美圖編(bian)》,而(er)(er)后知(zhi)世(shi)間真有才(cai)(cai)子(zi)佳人也。從來稗官(guan)家言(yan),大抵真贗參(can)半。若(ruo)夢(meng)晉(jin)(jin)之(zhi)名,既章章于(yu)(yu)《六如集》中,但素(su)瓊之(zhi)事,無從考證。雖然(ran),有其(qi)事何(he)必無其(qi)人,且安知(zhi)非作(zuo)者(zhe)有為而(er)(er)發(fa)乎?獨怪(guai)夢(meng)晉(jin)(jin)之(zhi)才(cai)(cai),目(mu)空(kong)千古,而(er)(er)其(qi)尚論才(cai)(cai)子(zi)佳人,則(ze)專(zhuan)以太(tai)白(bai)與鶯(ying)鶯(ying)當之(zhi)。夫太(tai)白(bai)誠天上仙才(cai)(cai),不可(ke)有二。若(ruo)千古佳人,自當以文君(jun)為第一。而(er)(er)夢(meng)晉(jin)(jin)顧舍(she)彼取此,厥后,果遇素(su)瓊,毋(wu)乃思崔得崔,適(shi)符其(qi)讖耶?至于(yu)(yu)張(zhang)以情(qing)死(si),崔以情(qing)殉,初(chu)非有一詞半縷之(zhi)成約,而(er)(er)慷慨從容(rong),等(deng)泰山于(yu)(yu)鴻毛(mao),徒以才(cai)(cai)色相(xiang)憐之(zhi)故。推此志也,凜凜生氣(qi),日月爭(zheng)光,又遠出琴心犢鼻之(zhi)上矣。而(er)(er)或(huo)者(zhe)猶追恨于(yu)(yu)夢(meng)晉(jin)(jin)之(zhi)早(zao)死(si)。以為夢(meng)晉(jin)(jin)若(ruo)不死(si),則(ze)素(su)瓊遣歸之(zhi)日,正(zheng)崔張(zhang)好合之(zhi)年,后此或(huo)白(bai)頭唱和,蘭(lan)玉盈階,未可(ke)知(zhi)也。噫!此固庸(yong)庸(yong)蚩蚩者(zhe)之(zhi)厚福(fu)也,何(he)有于(yu)(yu)才(cai)(cai)子(zi)佳人哉(zai)!
張靈(ling)(ling)(ling)本(ben)窶人(ren)子,力(li)作自給,而(er)靈(ling)(ling)(ling)生乃有(you)爽氣,嗜酒(jiu)醉(zui)則(ze)作狂曰(yue)(yue):“日休,小豎子耳,尚能稱醉(zui)士(shi)(shi),我獨不能醉(zui)耶!”所(suo)(suo)與(yu)(yu)游(you)者(zhe),吳趨、唐寅(yin)最善,寅(yin)嘗擬(ni)游(you)武(wu)丘(qiu),召靈(ling)(ling)(ling)與(yu)(yu)俱往,促之(zhi)(zhi),尚臥,寅(yin)抵(di)寢所(suo)(suo)呼曰(yue)(yue):“日高舂矣,睡何為?”靈(ling)(ling)(ling)覺,怒曰(yue)(yue):“今(jin)者(zhe)無酒(jiu),雅懷殊(shu)不啟。方入醉(zui)鄉,又為相攪。”寅(yin)曰(yue)(yue):“所(suo)(suo)以來,固欲邀子。”靈(ling)(ling)(ling)喜,加(jia)衣起,遂與(yu)(yu)寅(yin)上舟扣舷痛飲,作《野人(ren)歌》。會數(shu)賈飲于可中亭(ting),且詠詩,因更(geng)衣為丐(gai)者(zhe)上,賈與(yu)(yu)食啖之(zhi)(zhi),靈(ling)(ling)(ling)請續(xu)和。時賈所(suo)(suo)為詩有(you)“蒼官”、“青士(shi)(shi)”、“撲握”,“伊尼”諸詞,因以問靈(ling)(ling)(ling),靈(ling)(ling)(ling)曰(yue)(yue):“蒼官,松也(ye);青士(shi)(shi),竹(zhu)也(ye);撲握,免也(ye);伊尼,鹿也(ye)。”賈始駭令賡,靈(ling)(ling)(ling)即(ji)揮毫不已,凡百絕(jue)。抵(di)舟,命童子易維蘿陰下(xia)令跡絕(jue)。賈使人(ren)察之(zhi)(zhi),不見也(ye)。皆以為神(shen)仙。賈去,復上亭(ting),朱衣金目,作胡人(ren)舞形狀,殊(shu)絕(jue)。
祝允明嘗(chang)偕陸(lu)濟(ji)民(min)(min)、張(zhang)夢(meng)晉(jin)(jin)、韓壽椿(chun)登(deng)虎丘浮(fu)屠。登(deng)至絕頂,但見八荒洞然,萬籟齊發,飲酒(jiu)樂甚。壽椿(chun)出紙筆賦(fu)詩(shi)(shi)以紀其(qi)游(you),允明詩(shi)(shi)先成(cheng)(cheng),云:“草木衣裳(shang)下,煙霞掌(zhang)握中(zhong)。偶然飛咳(ke)唾,珠玉滿天(tian)(tian)風(feng)。”濟(ji)民(min)(min)云:“極目飛鴻小,致身云路(lu)中(zhong)。詩(shi)(shi)人少知(zhi)己,發付與東風(feng)。”夢(meng)晉(jin)(jin)云:“慮遣塵(chen)寰(huan)外(wai),天(tian)(tian)歸眼界中(zhong)。新詩(shi)(shi)三百首(shou),句(ju)句(ju)答松(song)風(feng)。”壽椿(chun)云:“詩(shi)(shi)寄千(qian)峰(feng)抄,春橫(heng)一鏡中(zhong)。攜壺兼荷鐘,不減晉(jin)(jin)人風(feng)。”詩(shi)(shi)成(cheng)(cheng)閣筆,天(tian)(tian)風(feng)颯然飄其(qi)詩(shi)(shi)草,盤旋直上(shang)太(tai)虛(xu),如神(shen)物掀舞。將擲地,又為蒼(cang)鷹(ying)所舉(ju),竟不知(zhi)其(qi)所止。遂名為“飛詩(shi)(shi)會(hui)。”
初,張靈(ling)(ling)與唐寅俱為郡學(xue)生,博古相尚(shang)。適鄞人(ren)方(fang)志來督學(xue),惡(e)古文詞,察知(zhi)寅,欲中傷之(zhi),靈(ling)(ling)挹郁(yu)不(bu)(bu)自遣。寅曰(yue):“子(zi)未為所知(zhi),何(he)愁之(zhi)甚?”靈(ling)(ling)曰(yue):“獨不(bu)(bu)聞(wen)(wen)龍(long)王(wang)欲斬有尾(wei)族,蝦蟆亦(yi)哭(ku)(ku)乎?”后(hou)靈(ling)(ling)果為所斥罷,或謂(wei)之(zhi)曰(yue):“以(yi)子(zi)之(zhi)才(cai),顧不(bu)(bu)得激致(zhi)青云,乃重(zhong)遭(zao)顯棄,豈無雉經之(zhi)用(yong),而(er)何(he)以(yi)立于(yu)世(shi)?”靈(ling)(ling)曰(yue):“昔(xi)謝(xie)豹化為蟲(chong),行地中,以(yi)足覆(fu)面作忍(ren)恥狀。吏靈(ling)(ling)用(yong)子(zi)言,亦(yi)當(dang)如是矣(yi)。縱(zong)不(bu)(bu)爾,亦(yi)安得更銜(xian)鑿落耶!”靈(ling)(ling)臨終前三日(ri)(ri)作詩(shi)云:“一(yi)枚蟬蛻榻當(dang)中,命也難辭付大空。垂死尚(shang)思玄(xuan)墓麓,滿山(shan)寒(han)雪一(yi)林松。”后(hou)一(yi)日(ri)(ri)又作詩(shi)云:“彷佛飛魂亂哭(ku)(ku)聲,多情于(yu)此(ci)轉多情。欲將眾淚澆(jiao)心(xin)火,何(he)日(ri)(ri)張家(jia)再托生?”聞(wen)(wen)者莫不(bu)(bu)悲之(zhi)。
